I returned to work 8 weeks post op after posterior approach LHR and was glad I didn't attempt any earlier. It all depends on type of work you do I guess as well and type of replacement approach. I work in an office and I had to constanly get up from desk and walk around as sitting irritated by incision site. I did shorter hours for a couple of weeks also to help settle back into travel and working full days.

I went back today after being off for 12 weeks, my job consists of a lot of lifting/bending. Per the surgeon all of my restrictions are lifted as of today. I had the posterior technique.
I cheated and played tennis on Sunday
Good Luck all

Hi Chloe
I went back at 6 weeks but only because I didn't get paid for any longer! It was hard going - I'm a nurse- but doable . Lots of people don't go back till 12 weeks . Most GP,s are happy to sign you off for that long.
Does depend what you do , plus how you've been post op as well xx

but, I must admit , felt quite achey ... .. but have found aqua aerobics have amazing in my recovery, also just walk lots.. so getting fit again will help, I am lucky to have a 7month puppy, so I dont have an excuse not to get out there walking.... Guess its the same old story ,we all have different lives, but just listen to your body, and you will know, when you are ready... good luck xxxx
PS its now 6 weeks, Post `OP xx

Hi, I popped in for some meetings at week 6, and then later did some half days. Went back properly in week 11, I teach 4 and 5 year olds, and it's quite physical. Depends on your job. Your doctor should sign you off for long as you need. Phased return is good because you gradually build up your hours/ days.

I hear what your saying about recovery times.Im in the US.Here we can get up to 12 weeks off in a calander year, that's it,come hell or high water .I will have had a knee and 2 hips done in 18 months plus husband had a triple bypass after my knee surgery.I have really been careful with my leave of absence time.It does however depend on your job

Hi chloe
In my experience of being on this forum a while there is some people who return to there work round about the 7 weeek mark but l had 1 hip replaced in december last year and the other 6 weeks later. I was off for about 4 months maybe 5 months when l thought that l was maybe ready. It all deoends on the person themselves and what sort of work they do. People taje diffrent time to heal and to me 7 weeks is to quick. It can take up to a year to fully recover from a thr,, thats not to say you will be off a year. Go back when you feel fully ready. Do not take the 7 week mark as being a sign l should be back at work. If you need another montth take it or 2. Don't rush back and end up being in pain. I have only just returned to work 3 days a week. I have been off since november last year but l have had my 2 hips and 1 knee done in that time. And beileive me sittimg in front of a computer for 7 hrs can be uncomfortable even as far along as me. My last hip replacement was 15th feb so l have had all that time to recover then got a knee done in august but its ny hips that are sore sitting at my computer just now. Take as long as you need is ny advice.
