Back weakness and chronic pain

I am an 80 year old male and have had a bad problem with my lower back for about 2 years now, it's gradually getting worse to the point where I can't do anything physically , I can still walk but only with a stick and only for half an hour then I start to fall forward, it's as though my back is collapsing , love gardening but now that is out of the question, my wife who is ten younger than me has to do it and it frustrates the hell out of me and makes me very sad and depressed, I've been told more or less there is nothing that can be done to help and that causes great anxiety and frustration, has anyone any ideas or suggestions to help me, it would be much appreciated. James Dixon.

You need to see a pain management doctor. There are so many things to try from meds, narcotics, physical therapy, chiropractor, acupuncture. Etc.

Hi James, I've heard this a ton from older individuals who are looking to get back to where they used to be...Any guidance or info from your GP or primary care doc about what to do?

Hi Ptlive guy , I was given a list of back exercises to do , they help a little but no where near enough, what I need is how to strengthen the muscles in my back to help my balance which is very unstable but to be honest I think my back is beyond redemption and I'll just have to live with it and put up with the frustration, thanks James
