Backpain and burning skin sensation
Posted , 4 users are following.
About 5 weeks ago I had some back pain which I think was a muscle pull or muscle tension. Then about 3 weeks ago I developed a burning sensation on my back and also my chest. The burning sensation was only on the skin like sunburn but no rash or marks. The back pain was still there. I went to a physio and he said the pain in my back was nothing to worry about but he was unsure of the skin burning sensation. Then a week ago the skin burning sensation has moved to my side and stomach and also onto my groin area. My pain in my back is almost gone but there is two points on my spine that if I put even a small bit of pressure on them there is alot of pain. My current health is very good otherwise. I stay very active and my age is 37 with no other know illnesses.

I've never of heard of those symptoms before. Perhaps you should see a doctor. I wish you well.

Hi, The burning pain is nerve pain it is sometimes shocking because it isn't constant., but sensitive to the touch..I've had a bad back for over 20 years, I have disc degeneration and 3 herniated discs, that causes nerve pain which goes across my lower back just above my butt, and sometimes by my groin and front of thigh...S1 and L1 L2 L3 L4 are where my back issues are.
I had a total hip replacement in 2015 and I have some nerve pain from that surgery too.
I have nerve pain in my wrist and top of right foot also. Arthritis irritates my nerves and causes the pain.
I'm 56 years old .
I take Tramadol and use a heating pad it does help. See a neurologist for a diagnosis.
I'm 56 now.

Hi martin,
I usually don't post, But i feel like I need to after going through what i am. If can help someone else
before the Anxiety takes over
and save you 9 months of test. Also to tell You, You are not alone. This may not be what you have but you never know, sorry this is a long post.
I had something similar happen to me starting in February 2017, and boy was it a long journey that I am still on
. In January i was going to PT for my right shoulder. I would have pain when I would have my hands behind my head and then when i brought my arm back down the muscle extension created a horrible pain in my shoulder. After a few weeks of PT it was stronger so I started to focus on lower back pain I was having, which eventually went away after i stopped(Oct-Nov 2017) taking a Statin drug for "High" Cholesterol . By this time it was February 2017. By then end of February I had a pressure feeling under my left rib, and my left rib hurt to the touch. When I ate i felt sick to my stomach and my stomach each day would burn more and more. During this month or so I lost like 20-30 pounds. I was losing like 5 -10 pounds a week. I'm not sure if the PT person did something when they were doing the spinal manipulation, i remember hearing a loud pop, and after that things start going south, but this is just speculation. Looking back it could be several other things. March 1 I had to cut PT short because every time i would do core exercise i felt sick to my stomach. so that night I went to the ER. The ER did blood work which was normal and sent me home with Anxiety meds and Prilosec and Maylox. Of course I had anxiety I was losing weight rapidly, change in bowel habits and didn't understand why. Retrospect I wasn't eating, basically bread, rice, broth.
I remember feeling i was dying,, the Anxiety got worst and worst over the coming months. Every little thing on my body I thought it was something wrong, I was driving my family nuts.
.
I went to the ER from March to May/June like 4 or times, stomach felt like it was on fire, dry vomiting, heart racing . They did blood work said it was normal. told me to treat the anxiety.
During this time my Family Doc, Did a chest x-ray of my left rib, did a CT scan of my abdomen, did a treadmill stress test. All was normal. He told me to treat the Anxiety.
By May/June I was having a Endo and Colonoscopy, which said I was normal. They also did a biopsy for H pylori which was negative, the blood test the Family doc did was positive. Not treatment needed. The Gastro doc told me to stop the Prilosec, I think that caused a lot of the burning and some other issues. He thought my issue was Anxiety and he told me go get that treated. By this time I had lost 40 pounds
During this time i did a bunch of Google searches about the stomach burning, I found a post that the person recommended to the topic owner to have their Thoracic back (T spine) area checked. In August/September I told my doc about the burning I have in the middle of my back after leaning forward when my back is pressed up against the back of something like a chair. The release of pressure from my back being against the chair had a burning feeling. Also had burning in my left should blade area of my back and a fluttering feeling that last a few weeks. Sleep on my back was painful, and sleeping on either of my sides was painful, burning. During these dark months i dreaded going to bed and getting up.
He sent me to an Orthopedic doc, that did a x-ray which showed 20+% scoliosis and he saw something that he wanted an MRI done, he thought he saw a wedge(fracture) on the x-ray. The MRI should bulging disk in 3 spots of my Thoracic spine with disk compression, and saw a 4-5 mm bright spot on one of the bone, few bone spurs, but no fractures. The ortho doc took about 3 minutes to show me the MRI and to tell me there is nothing he can do surgically and referred me to Pain Management. I felt so rushed out of there like i was wasting his time. He said the bright spot is nothing to worry about .
Pain Management has done 1 spinal steroid injection that helped maybe 2-3 days. I have started PT again late part of Nov, once a week until I get a 2nd shot. The 2nd shot was set for Dec but had to rescheduled until January 2018 due to a cold. When I got the 1st shot I asked the pain management doc how sever my situation is and he said it minor. Wow, this is horrible I hate to feel it when it becomes sever

I also during this time worked on the Anxiety with Therapy and most important prayer which is working and meds which have not worked will for me. I did have many life changing things happen in 2016, that contributed to a small amount of Anxiety, that got that snowball rolling, but it got out of control In February.
I was on Buspar which gave me Insomnia, and nightmares, and Lexapro that gave me a fight lip
. I also started to talk to a therapist in June. I was going every week for a couple of months then 2 times a month, the last 3 months it been every 3 weeks. Anxiety is bad before and after bed time. Sleeping is a horrible experience. No matter what I cannot get comfortable.. I wake up every couple hours to readjust. I'm back to 95%. I'm sleeping better, but still dread bed time and getting up. I just don't feel like a get a good night's rest. Also wake up from time to time sweating.
Praying, and coming closer to God has been the biggest help, and then talking with the therapist who listens as I talk myself through it. Positive talk helped. Reading Think Better Live Better helped, reading the bible helped. But this another discussion topic
With all this to say.
1) you are not crazy, however that is how you will be treated. It's the symptoms and the possible underlining cause that will cause the Anxiety which is what the doc will diagnose you with. Once you find the cause of the back pain, torso burning. you will start to feel like better because you will at least know what it is.
2) Tell the doc about the back pain, ask for a referral to a specialist, be aggressive and get an MRI done.
3)Most important you are not alone.
Also have a look at the diagram on this web page. It explains each level of your spine and what the nerves are linked to in the areas of our body. http://denverfitnessjournal.com/tag/thoracic-spine/
Many Blessings to you
