    Hi Pauline

I'm 8 months down the line and last month did a 7 mile bike trundle!!!! Then a walk was away for a few days I suffered with aching thigh and bum muscles for about 5 days after I think the key is to rest until the aches subside before doing any more strenuous exercise and gardening is strenuous

    Hope you recover soon

    Regards

Hi Pauline, I too am just over 4 months! I know I have over done things. It's not easy as I am Hubby's carer! He too has oa of lumber spine, hips and knee's! Also deaf and severely sighted! So tension and anxiety with me!I am having reflexology and aromatherapy and will have jacuzzis when I can. It's not easy .sorry about you! It can take longer to recover as its a major op! Almost certainly I think. Was pain free for a while, recently gone back to work, phased return, driven longer distances, more housework etc.

As someone else has said, take it easy for a few  days, will then subside. I think of it as the body giving me an amber light, proceed with caution!

Hi pauline, yes I agree with all the others, you have overdone it,  I am 8 months post, and i am in real pain as i write this, see my other posts on this, basically i thought all was great with my new hip, no pain , but because I'm in agony with the other one now i have to lean more on the opp. side.

I have good and bad days, but today I went shopping and was walking round the store for an hour or so, and by the time I got to the parking lot, My operated hip was on fire!! but it will pass, I hope, basically we have to re adjust our lives according to the situation that we are now in, the pain is better than before, but there are and i think always will be restrictions frown

hi pauline ... I agree with the others - you might have overdone it - easy to do when you don;t feel any discomfort while doing it, however muscles and tissue are still fragile and tender - early stages  of healing - well, you kno what to do ... rest and take it easy and be oh so gentle with yourself -

    warm hug

Huge thanks to all of you and comments.  Basically I am too independent to just stop doing anything and I am one paying the price.  I have taken on board all your advice and appreciate your kind words.

I've noticed a prevalence of posts like this lately. Makes me wonder exactly what's going on here.

There is also a similar trend on other threads, lauding, for instance, how many miles people are walking after a few weeks THR.

I'm going to stick my neck out.

It strikes me that some seem to think our lives resemble something like a challenge. As in: 'I will prove to myself (and others?) that I can do x as well as I used to do, or 'should' do'.

This touches, I believe, on something quite profound. What is *life* about/for?

I do try not to be judgemental, but I can't quite understand what these 'strivers' are actually trying to prove, and why.

Surely, we are meant to live in the moment: not in another moment where we 'achieve' more?

I'm fully understanding of the opposite argument to this: onwards and upward = progress. But, hey. How about we just enjoy, appreciate and celebrate what we can manage on a day to day basis? Isn't there a glorious freedom in doing that, rather than a self imposed pressure to go beyond an innate sense of what feels right to each and every one of us, as individuals?

    Just suggesting…

hello darling .... how are you doing?

thank you for sharing your observation and honesty ... yes, it is true - there are definitley trends and waves of similar topics - thanks to all fellow hippies  (including you) on this forum for that - making us feel safe and understood no matter what or how many times the same issues come up ... I find it very comforting ...

for me personally, this is something big I went through - my body has undergone something traumatic and I had no idea what  to expect - just stories from people who know people who .... etc ... walk-in-the-park , right ... we all find this forum because we are/were in pain or worried or in fear .... and there you are !!!      my tribe !!

of course we applaud accomplishments and little victories !!! with whom are you going to share that you walked up and down the stairs unaided ?  or did a load of laundry - or, darn it, you felt so good that you worked in the garden, or tried running and now you are in pain ...

I have lovely friends, really ... however I cannot really share these little things with them ... they are not aware what we are going through - even going out for dinner and sitting in a chair for a couple of hours is sometimes taxing for me ...

I don't feel that I am in competition however a nice kick in the butt sometimes is not bad for me - and honestly, I don't think anybody tries to prove anything - I, for one, need you all as mirrors -

anyway, thank you for reminding me to be even more appreciative of the things I can do -

Blessing to you and warm hug

I have just been talking to my daughter, a 26 year old who recently returned to the gym after a few weeks break. Surprise, surprise she had a few aching muscles a couple of days afterwards. Thinking back to before the HIP began, I can relate to that. So perhaps when we use our recently cut, sewn and partially wasted muscles we should expect a few aches and pains too

Pauline, I agree with everybody. At 11 weeks, 2 weeks ago, we took our campervan to Cornwall. I have walked down to beaches, driven over 900 miles, lifted chairs, made beds etc etc, and today I'm stiff in thighs and back but my muscles are coming back. It is like going back yo the gym after a long lay off. Easy day today and a kip.
