Sixteen weeks on Monday from scarf. Here I go again. Not good news. I wore some different shoes last weekend,  since then I've developed sharpe shooting pains in joint of big toe, enough to make me gasp.  What have I done. The joint seems still swollen and to move the toe is now painful. I'm still doing excersises, and these hurt. This is very disheartening .  I have another app to see consultant  in three weeks. Physio  have looked at it and they think it's ok. I wonder if it's something to do with the pins in it. Is there anyone at 16 weeks with similar problems. Comments very welcome please.

Hi, I am 8/9 weeks after op and I had my right got done a couple of years ago, did your shoes have a heel of any size? As I wore shoes with a low heel 4 months after and my toe absolutely killed me afterwards!  Just as you say yours is, I just had to accept I was in fit flops for the next 4 months! Seriously this was all I wore for 8 months after. Worth it though it's fine now send I know the left will be ok.

Glad to hear Carol's reply.....I can't help you though.  I go in this Monday and hoping to throw my foot boot away.  It has been 2 months + ...Now Nita51180...what did you have done?   I need shoes with arch supports and put one in my foot boot.  I am hoping to wear tennis shoes on Monday.  Hope it all works out

Yes I am the same I need arch support. It is supposed to be all linked with big toe. I have had pin in hammer toe and bunion done only 10 days ago. I visit doc on wed. No pain but discomfort and a restless leg of a night time. Don't under stand that but will ask wen I go . It's a pity the surgery didn't include arches ha

Oh no this is not good. That sounds so awful for you and I am sorry to hear that you are struggling.

i am still in one size up trainers or ugg style boot and cannot imagine a shoe with a heel.  I knocked my big toe going up the stairs today and I am now having shooting pains in my foot and the feeling on pins stuck in my toe.  Such a long recovery road.

hang in there and I do hope your pain goes and recovery gets back on track.  I feel I will need to change my expectations as I am 9 weeks and was hopeful to be back in normal shoes in 5 weeks time for a new job which now looks unlikely 😒

I had scarf akin osteotomy and mortons neauroma removal on same foot early October 2014 and I have dreadful sharp pains all the time in big toe, also underside of foot below big toe is very painful to walk on. That together with aweful pains and numb feeling in and under the toe affected by neauroma is just a nightmare. So I can fully sympathise with you and what you're experiencing. I'm told it's early days but am finding it hard to think it will get better as every time I walk it makes it worse. Appreciate anyone else's views who has gone through the same procedures.

      Hi Sandy

I had very similar in July 2014 and still not able to wear joggers or hard shoes. My podiatrist referred me for an x-ray and I can see for the frist time how many pins and staples there are. The main problem is I think a large staple sideways into my big toe. My doctor has referred me to an orthopedic specialist querying removal but i can't see him until Sept  2014. My original surgeon won't see me until July 2016!! I am now only wearing mens' sandals and mesh shoes

This sounds very like my probs.  it's very frustrating  to see so little progress as some seem to get over this scarf op so fast.....  I've got arthritis in this foot as well so I don't think this is helping.  I've been rubbing ibrufen into the joint in the hope it will help the pain. Not walking right on this foot had really upset the back problem I had before so it's like a vicious circle I can't break at the moment........... Please keep updating on here as  there seems to be a lot of people  on this site that have problems. There seems to be different  time scales for improvement and progress. I really thought by now I would be better than I am.

That sounds worrying Fiona. I have a sideways staple in the base of my toe.  Am getting some bend back in it but aches if I push it too much.

      wishing you well.
