its now 24 weeks since scarf op,  I can tell you that the joint is still large, I don't think now it's going to reduce in size. There is still restricted movement  with the toe. This is due to there being arthritis in the joint as well.  I am walking better, still doing exercises,  the joint stiffens up if I don't keep massaging it and excerising, first thing in the morning it feels immobile, the toe still is numb on  the top side,  I still have to be careful what shoes I wear, lots of my  shoes I still can't get the foot into,  it has left me with a wider foot. Across the joints.   The scars do not show at all now so that's good.  Anyone out there at the same stage? Comments very welcome,  it's really good to hear how others are doing.

Hi,mine must be about he same stage, first foot done in August last year, second one in December . I too have still got sizeable joints and stiffness in the first foot, the second has a big lump of scar tissue on the inside which sticks out where the bunion was. Makes shoes very tricky.mi don't think mine are going to get any smaller either, the good thing is both my big toes face forwards which is great. I wear toe separators at night too which helps I think. Amanda

Hi Anita I'm now 22 weeks post scarf ostemoty & Akins on 2nd,3rd & 4th metatarsal ! Experiencing a lot of stiffness  in big toe  and at base of other toes at ball of foot, feels tight & sore all the time . Have to massage foot b4 getting out of bed to get it going ! Foot still swells easily so limited footwear choices also. No scarring either but that's the least of my concerns as I still have slight limp ! Just want to wallk smoothly & comfortably. Next check up in  6 weeks & if no improvement surgeon wants to do a manipulation under anaesthetic where they get the joints moving, break up scar tissue & adhesions , sounds horrendous but hoping it'll sort out those issues !

i think I'm one of the 15% that the lapidus hadn't worked for.

both joints still very prominent, possibly only a centimetre or 2 smaller in circumference and can still only wear a few older shoes/boots.

swelling is still bad at certain times, and I only stagger around the first few minutes every morning

Well 28 weeks now and I think this is as good as it's going to be. I still have the problem of a swollen joint, that  does not want to move much,   I think that massaging it really well last thing at night is helping a bit. I use any cream  that I have.  I really try to manipulate it, in the hope that it will help. And  my feet smell  really nice as well............ Shoes are still a bother as I can't get into  lots of  them, I threw out the really high ones, I know  I'll never get in them again.  Never mind it could be worse. I still wonder how you can have screws in your foot permanently and  not reject them . Miracle of technology...... How are you others progressing now?
