Bacterial Vaginosis VIP Member - Now getting preventative maintenance

Hi,

After I visited my urogyn last week, I developed vaginal pain and then over the weekend urinary frequency. I initially thought the pain was from the pelvic floor exam (which some pain could still be from as she said today my left side was very tender). The fun urinary frequency is a gift from bacterial vaginosis which I found out I have again. This makes three times since October. I always seem to get it right before my period so I am wondering if hormones dropping have anything to do with it as I am perimenopausal? I have been taking Refresh Pro B pill probiotics and I take Align probiotics for my IBS.

My question is that my doctor said since this is the third time she is switching me to metronidazole vaginal gel .75 for seven nights and then putting me on preventative dose of twice a week for six months. So....has anyone does this and had some success?

In addition, I did not get a yeast infection with my previous two metronidazole pill prescriptions, but I am worried about yeast with the gel. Any advice on how to avoid it? Should I be taking even more probiotics?

I did get some good news today in that my urine sample that was sent out for DNA analysis came back perfectly clear. So at least for a minute I am UTI free - but it seems I am always treating something.

have you tried boric acid? I think that preventative metrogel regimine is linked to yeast infections, and bv will probably still recur once you stop
