Bacterial vaginosis wont go away 😥 PLEASE READ!

Hi there, I have been battling BV for about 4 or 5 months now. I was diagnosed in August and it is now December. Let me tell you a little more about my story. In August, I realized my period was a little off. (it came very early, and then came back 2 weeks later) i had messed up my birth control pills previous months before then, so I assumed it was from that. But then I started to get a lot of discharge. I also had a very bad internal vaginal itch. I've never had vaginal itching before internally, or a lot of discharge so I immediately knew something was off. I was due soon for my annual gyno appointment, but I couldn't wait that long to find out what was wrong. I thought "could I be pregnant or could this be an std I somehow got?" I was panicking and thinking the worst. I started googling all of my symptoms and I've never even heard of BV so I thought it was one of the other options. I took a million pregnancy tests because I was so paranoid and they were all negative. I went to urgent care to get STD tested because i was just so scared. I got a phone call a few days later saying my tests were negative for STDs. Which I was very relieved about but then I started thinking okay I must be pregnant then. I was making myself sick because of how paranoid I was. I had gone to my annual GYNO appointment, I explained to her how I've been having a lot of discharge and that my period was weird and that i just felt very off and not right at all. she gave me an HCG blood test for the sake of my mental health, and also did some cultures to see what could be causing the discharge. I didn't mention to her about the itch because it was so on & off it was just the discharge that was bothering me a lot. She called me a few days later saying the hcg test was negative, but she said I did have a little bit of bacterial vaginosis. she asked me if I douched or anything like that which I dont, so I still have no idea how I got this! I felt relieved thinking it was something that would easily go away with medicine. She prescribed to me some antibiotics (metronidazole) and told me to eat a probiotic with it. she said me messing up my birth control most definitely threw my period off, I took the antibiotics for about 5 days before I stopped, I had HORRIBLE side effects to keep it long story short. I then started to have horrible pelvic pain and I thought it was from the meds. I called my doctor and told her so she said to stop it, and try eating activia yogurt and stick with that to see if it improves. well, I got my period again after so I didnt know if it got better or not. I continued eating the yogurt and after my period the discharge got better. I thought to myself wow, I guess it worked. WRONG! It came back a few days after and this time the discharge was worse. it was absolutely horrible. there would be so much of it. so I decided to just continue eating the yogurt and make another appointment. I went back to a different GYNO, I explained my situation to her and she said BV can sometimes cause minor pelvic pain and cramping. she gave me a Nuvessa gel, and said it should work. I used it. it didnt work. At all. still had a ton of discharge. so I called and told them that it didnt work. they prescribed me metronidazloe vaginal gel which helped for maybe 2 days. The discharge is still there, the itch is still on and off, the pain is horrible. and now I have a little bit of an odor. it's not a fishy odor, just a strong not good odor. I dont know what to do or how to help this. Right now I'm currently trying the sea salt baths to see if they help. I Also have been taking something called rephresh pro b probiotic supplement. I ordered it off amazon and have been taking it for about a month now and it still is there. nothing is helping me at all and I'm getting depressed. I feel as though its causing other issues, because my pelvic pain has gotten worse and my periods keep coming about 8 days early every month. I'm so worried this is doing long term damage. nothing has helped me at all. I'm hoping the sea salt baths help me with killing off the bad bacteria. I have absolutely no sexual desire or sex life because I dont feel attractive at all with all this discharge constantly coming out of me. and I'm also in pain from it sometimes. It's been since august and its now december. someone please help! I plan on going back to the doctor to see if they can do anything else but I feel as if they all do the same thing and I read other girls story and they just dont seem helpful. PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE! I just want to feel like a normal 22 year old female again.

I am so sorry for your suffering. I had a similar story and my BV struggles are related to perimenopause- but hormonal imbalances as well. I would highly suggest going to a specialist who can test you for everything. I found a great urogynocologist who tested me for rare bacteria as well (such as ureaplasma). in addition, she was very proactive and we tried different strategies from long term use of metrogel (twice a week for six months) to boric acid for two weeks. If that doesn't work, find an infectious disease specialist. unfortunately, BV can be very challenging and if related to hormones - a chronic problem. It is manageable....but you must find good medical help. Don't continue to suffer!

This is just me thinking here, but if all of the sudden your period got irregular and about at the same time your problems started it maybe has to do something with hormones.

Gynae problems are something else indeed. When we knock on the right doors in the medical profession and end up still having them. Sometimes the best thing to do is to have a break from all the stuff that could heal. Do you walk? How about a walk with a friend in nature?

Then after a week of a different approach, determined walks, better sleeps try inserting Greek natural yoghurt at night that could help?

Plus have you had a thyroid test? Might be worth having. If these hormones are out of kilter that can cause gynae problems not BV itself but in my opinion can make a difference. I had gynae problems some years ago and got better from having a hormone tablet each day.

You could have low, normal or high thryroid levels. The thryroid level can be found from a blood test that your GP can request. Do you feel the cold more than you used to? This suggests a low thryoid balance. Just some thoughts to keep you company.

I'm very sorry that you have to go through the horrible symptoms of BV but believe me you are not alone. I'm not sure if you've researched BV but it is when the PH In your vagina is off so it needs to be balanced again. A lot of the time it is trial and error so you will have to find what works for you. personally for me, and i know most doctors don't recommend this but i usually douche one time with a rinse called hibiclense. This is a solution that doctors give patients to wash their bodies with before undergoing surgery the next day to prevent infections. it basically kills off bacteria for an extended period of time. OBGYNS also have pregnant women douche with this at times when the have Group Strep B. Anyway, i use one part Hibiclense and 4 parts water. i literally douche with this one time and have no issues after. i also take pro-biotics and drink ALOT of water. I do not use soap or wash clothes on my vagina to clean. if i do, its a gentle feminine wash and i rinse with lots of water. Make sure your vagina is dry at all times and use a panty liner. you may also want to change your diet for a period (cut back on sugar) BV is an infection that has a better chance of being cleared up homeopathically . Be patient and don't be so hard on yourself. Good luck sweetie.

ps. you can also try Boric Acid suppositories as well as Tea Tree suppositories.

I think you have been doing very well with the sea-salt baths.

It is an infuriating complaint. Have you had thrush? You might have thrush. The best tablet for this is fluconazole. I think there is a test for thrush though it does cost. Your GP if he has been prescribing antibiotics should as well prescribe something for thrush as the antibiotics cause this.

My understanding of thrush is that there are tests that the GP can give you but don't. Chemists have "do you have thrush" test though I have forgotten the details of how it works but know it costs more than I want to pay out.

    As well as:

One week: stop all possible healing things like sea-salt baths etc

Go for a walk each day as your time away from the problem

Following week use the natural yoghurt

Following week if not back to normal use hydogen peroxide that is an antiseptic (Amazon have it). Use a tiny amount at night before sleeping. put inside the vagina. this peroxide kills bacteria (worked for me)

Get back to the medical profession as well as their ideas can be invaluable.

If not feeling well see if people can make your favourite meal.

Have oranges and vegetables as much as possible. The body needs vitamins. Most fruit is good for you.

Send a posting to say how you are doing.

Dealt with problems for almost a year. Finally got antibiotic that basically wiped out everything. Then I had yeast. I just let that run its course. Came back several years later. Used same antibiotic and did douches with water and a few drops of bleach to get rid of the yeast. Now I know your probably like wait a minute! What? I figured if they give bleach baths to people with exema sometimes that what the heck Why not!! It worked for me. not saying for you do to this but just stating it worked for me. I wouldn't hesitate at all if I needed to again. But again it worked for me. Everybody saying use this or that. I figured it wiped out everything. Good luck hope you find something that works. It's a terrible place to be at.
