Bad backs and doing the cleaning...

I have just got my very early Chrissie pressy! I have a Roomba 620 iRobot. It is better than a pet...

I struggle with my vacuum cleaners - I have a traditional UK upright and a cylinder type too. But as soon as I use one - my back immediately offers its resignation. The result is a rather dusty floor and lots of dust bunnies, Someone on one of the forums mentioned she'd got one so I did my homework and decided yes, I wanted one!!!

I bought it locally (if it goes wrong it is far easier) - I could have got it for less. But I put it on to play this afternoon. It is fascinating - it is a random pattern which means it doesn't clean everything perfectly on the first clean but I can see the difference on my wooden floors already. The trap was full of compacted fluff by the time the battery was down and it went back to charge. It went under most of my furniture - just 3 cupboards on feet where the space was too narrow. I can't see under them! It got stuck a couple of times - I don't think I'd leave it on its own (there is a programmable version) but it wasn't very noisy so sitting in the room doing the forums while it ran wasn't a trial.

PMR is a pain - in every sense. This is almost as good as a cleaner - and over time will probably work out cheaper lol  wink  And my back (which is playing up) didn't suffer...

I agree roomba is a God Send! It keeps my floors clean! It get stuck occasionally under cabinets or scoops up anything littering the carpet or hard flooring.

Also the irobot for tile floors comes real handy in bathrooms and kircken.

Sounds brilliant! So much better than struggling with a conventional vacuum cleaner.

EileenH, I would love to see your Roomba 620 iRobot with our Dachshunds. I know that would bring a smile to my face. Thinking positive 🙂

Oooh! I get vouchers for spending on my credit card and have been saving them for one of these. We are filthy country people with three dogs and cats, do you think it will cope?

I think there is one that is supposed to be better than the others for that. But I think the point is that you use it every day - once it was clean the first time it stays better, does that makes sense? Though I do appreciate that 3 dogs and cats would try anything!!! Maybe you need one per room...

Hi Eileen.  Good for you!  Couldn’t use one myself (wooden floors throughout, but too much clutter - downsizing is a beast)!!  Instead I have a cleaner once a week and a husband for emergencies!😀😀

A friend has one in her garden, it’s fantastic, she lies on her recyliner and cuts the lawn.😲.  I wonder what the future will turn up?

Just checking. Are you still there or has it swept you up? 😳I've wondered about them but bought a light rechargeable when I couldn't manage the heavy vac. Now the one for the grass appeals but we have finally decided to employ a gardener next year as well the person who trims the hedges. Cheaper than moving house.

I watched it to work out how best to use it - it is the cheapest so not programmable. I lived one of the rechargeables in the shop - and said "ouch"! It is leaning forwards that I find the most problematic - and my orthopod said years ago that brooms and vacuums were a no-no for back patients.

      But brilliant!!!!

Well done Eileen - why not use all the modern facilities we have around us these days.  Unfortunately I'm the modern facility in this house, it's the wife who switches me on and says 'get on with it'.biggrin

EileenH, it has gotten cold and windy here in the mountains of New Mexico. Last evening came in sat down on the couch, I was chilled, then a pack of Dachshund jump in my lap and warmed me right up. Your Roomba 620 iRobot. Cannot do that! It is better than a pet???

Thinking positive with a smile. :-)

Pets make the mess - roomba clears it up...

Not if the Doxie catchers the roomba, then you would have a mess! You cannot sit down to read a book or watch TV without a Doxie in your lap! :-)

And I have a Shih Tzu/Poodle in my lap as I look at all the sand brought in whilst walking further and further with my knee replacement, hip bursitis, and stiff in the morning PMR, assisted by my beloved cane.  I am pleased to report that I feel well enough on 6 mgs pred to walk to town.   I will be 80 next year and think that I shall make it there.

Peggy, I am 80, try to stay active and mostly do. Play with our Doxies in the yard. They will chase anything that moves, true hunters, very lovable. But most dogs are.

      Smiling and thinking positive. :-)
