Bad blood????

Just a thought that popped into my head. In 2004 I had 5 blood transfusions after a bad time with hernias.

My first symptoms of ME/cfs (that I can remember) were in 2005 when I was walking in a town I've been to hundreds of times and suddenly I didn't know where I was, why and even what! I had a look arltthe phone in my hand and called the first person I could think of, which was my brother and told him I didn't know where I was. He had me describe my surrounding and then came and picked me up, it was a horrible feeling.

My brain is just wondering whether there could of been something in the blood they gave me??

    Don't know if you are aware or this is useful but, you are not allowed to give blood anymore with cfs/me. You can do a web search to clarify this.

    Hi chrissyboo;  I don't think so???.....as I am sure that any blood donated/given in any country (and has been for many years), is subject to very strict regulations and testing before transfusing to others.......those that wish to donate have to fill out Many questionairres (including what medications/previous illnesses as well as current illnesses/operations etc)...before even having blood taken....and it is then tested by Red Cross before being allowed to be used in any blood transfusions in any hospital/situation.................the only way that you could have received contaminated blood would be from a relative of same blood type, in an emergency situation, and then only with your/N.O.K's written consent (and this I have not seen/heard of in almost 40+ years in 1st and 2nd world countries)........of a more sure answer, it may have been the trauma your body received with this operation/hernias that may have caused your body to become susceptible to CFS???........as many of us have felt..........it is very hard to accept and especially to find yourself in the situation that you found yourself in........you were lucky to have someone available who could pick you up, safely...............Bron

      As Beverley has said it's only now that people with Me/Cfs have been stopped from donating so I do think it's plausible but maybe I am clutching at straws to find reasons. All I know is that life with Me/cfs sucks!

    Personally I don't think it has anything to do with the transfusions themselves, but it very likely that the whole process was triggered by the event itself - the adrenalin system kicks in and then can't switch off so perpetuates symptoms.
