Bad Breath/reflux? pnd? infection? Something else?

Hi,

I wasn't sure where to put this duscussion.

I've had bad breath (especially horrendous morning breath) for as long as I can remember. Probably for a good 10 years or so? (I'm 29)

I've also experience what I think is possible post nasal drip (tongue is always coated. Often feel mucus on back of throat and need to clear my thoat)

and some sort of acid reflux in my throat (occasional burning sensation below my adams apple)

Both the possible PND and reflux seemed to come on after already having bad breath for a numbe of years though, so i'm not sure if they're even related? The reflux feeling is fairly infrequent.

I also occasionally get tonsil stones.

I have good oral health. Brush twice per day, floss, moutwash. Dentist confirmed gums are healthy.

Yet I can taste bad breath coming on again shortly after my morning routine.

NOW, I recently took metronidazole for something completely unrelated, and to my utter amazement, my breath became as fresh as a babies! Reflief after a decade! Even my morning breath smelt of nothing.

I was so happy until I read online that other people had experienced this phenomenen, but that the bad breath returns when you stop taking the antibiotic.

I stopped taking it 4 days ago, and I think that my breath may finally be reverting back sad This morning wasn't quite as fresh as yesterdays. I'm depressed now that my bad breath is likely to return in full force within a few days.

I'm wondering if anyone can shed any light?

Anyone been in the same boat and found a cure?

Can any knowledge be gained from the fact that the antibiotic temporaily cured me or not?

Do you snore? Ever been tested for sleep apnea? Is your voice sound nasally? At age 21 your adenoids should be nearly gone, if they arent, then there is a bacterial infection causing inflammation and preventing them from disappearing like they should. This infection causes the odor. Research adenoiditis and see if you have symptoms of this

Metronidazole (flagyl) is basically the best antibacterial medicine you can get. There are newer forms of antibacterial meds on the market youcan try, but metronidazole is the medicine considered to be the "gold standard" to which the newer drugs are measured

No, I don't snore.. I, at times feel a bit cough feel at the back of my throat while talking.. And It occus almost everytime. I don't know what it is all about.

I read about adenoid thing but the main symptoms(as google says) is Snoring. Isn't it? And I am having this bad breath since 5-6 years. I am completely exhausted. I feel helpless for myself that I actually can't find out what is the problem with me!! So i keep on searching and searching.. May be one day i'll find a cure

There are other symptoms beyond snoring. Your adenoids are in the back of your throat at the top right where your maxillary sinus begins. The drip that makes you cough and clear your throat is very likely to be coming from your adenoids. Try a course of Metronidazole, if you get better, but when you stop taking the drug get worse again, youve found your culprit and its your adenoids. To rinse your adenoids off, youve got to get the fluid to the top of your throat by moving getting the top of your head pointed towards the floor.

Biotene mouth wash helps w dry mouth. From my experience, a dry upper throat is a small price to pay if a wet upper throat means you have bad breath. Drink lots of water to compensate for this
