Bad News and Good News

Well I went Monday and got the results of my biopsy and while I do have cancer cells it is considered low risk.

They took 12 cores and they said that cancer was only found in 1 cores and it was about 10% or less. My Gleason was 3+3. So for right now the plan is active monitoring. Gonna get my psa tested every 3 months.

I asked the Dr was there anything I should change as far as diet and other things. His only answer was not to eat a lot of smoked and BBQ meats. He said a Mediterranean diet is good so I am gonna look into that and try to cut back ok my meat intake.

Any tips from you guys?

    Big WillG,

That is great news Big Wil lG. Stay with that active surveillance program.

The only thing that I could suggest is to drink Pomegranate juice everyday.

Good luck to you in the future and don't forget about us on this site.  It's always good to hear good news like that. Stay healthy my friend!!

    Very pleased for you!

Lots of fruit, dried or fresh. Lots of exercise - brisk walking is fine, it doesn't have to be anything needing Lycra. I've no idea whether that is specifically beneficial for cancer but anything that makes you fitter helps your body grapple with it.

Btw, was your experience of biopsy anything like anyone else's, as per your previous thread?

My biopsy experience wasn't bad. Honestly the most uncomfortable part was the when they initially put the probe in. After they numbed it with the lidocane it was painless. Afterwards I had some discomfort for a few days but nothing serious

congrats! strongly suggest you get into smoothies or find a way to mix at least 1 Tbs each, of powdered turmeric, ginger and 1 tsp of ceylon cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of cayenne (drink 8 oz of liquid + fresh fruit).

I had same results as you and whilst I was offered removal I opted for AS and have had 5 years with no problem from the Cancer. Managed to get Prostatitis so things different now. Just put it to the back of your mind and enjoy life to the full, and I am not certain there are any main things to do or not do, just take everything in moderation and keep smiling.

Bad news and good news I guess. They found something but it wasn't something awful. My biopsy 2 weeks ago returned a score of 0. But previously they had read my MRI Pi RADS of 4 and five. The urologist said a level 5 lesion was 80% likely to be cancerous. So either the radiologist didn't know what he was doing or the urologist missed a possible cancer in the biopsy. Which can happen maybe 20% of the time. So I ended up with sort of good news I guess but more questions than answers. I wish you the best of luck..

Though I have not been very diligent in pursuing an increase in physical activity and controlling my craving of the bad foods, there is a lot of literature on the benefits of physical exercise, not eating specific foods and more importantly eating specific foods, that I strongly urge you to research and decide whether it is for you.

One tip that works for me and makes sense to me (but not all): cut all alcohol intake.

    BigwillG,

I think that's good advice you got, try to stay away from eating a lot of meat, especially red meat, heavily cooked meats, BBQ, etc

Try to incorporate juicing in to your diet, there's a book out there written by the author, claims she had either beat her cancer or has it at bay from drinking carrot juice everyday.  (I haven't read it yet), something to look in to though, I've been doing that every other day including beets, cale, honey, lemon, garlic and so on, definitely can't hurt.

    Good luck to you!
