Bad night of anxiety. Why?

Good morning,

I'm on 50mg and on week five. My moods are stabilising and sleep better, but after my first small glass of rosé last night, I had a horrendous night of anxiety. Needed a double dose of lorazepam to settle my shaking, twitching and waves of anxiety. I'm also due to start my period any day now. Could this be a possibility why last night happened?

    Hi Jen,

I'm the same as you, week 5 on 50mg. This was the first weekend I attempted drinking since starting and I have been fine. However I had a terrible weekend last weekend and I think it might have been because I got my period during the week. I think my anxiety is definitely much worse during PMS time. Hope this helps.

Hi Jennifer, yes, alcohol and Zoloft are not good together. I remember that in the past when I drank even one glass of wine, the morning after gave me the most severe headache that I literally want to rip my head apart. The headache would last a whole day. I have since quit drinking altogether. I even quit caffeine and I missed my chai latte sometimes. So yes, your anxiety is most likely due to the alcohol.

Also, for us ladies, the time around our periods also causes more anxiety.

Oh, one more thing, do not eat grapefruit while on Zoloft as it could negate the effect of the med and you will feel more anxious. I hate this cuz I happen to love grapefruit.

Thank you everyone, your words and support have helped me. Think it's time to put the wine glass away for a while and deal with the PMS as best I can. Each week on Sertraline heralds new surprises!

It's definitely PMT Katie! I started today and I've been edgy, anxious, tired and shaky. I spoke to another lady who confirmed she feels awful during her time of the month.xx

Good to know because I just finished to use my contraception pill before I started on Sertaline and the last two three months are really weird one week before my period. I have PMS symptoms I've never had before and feel anxious.

I was worried that med doesn't work.

Hi, i also worried incase i was going backwards as i had really bad side effects during my 9weeks on fluoxetine and then for a while when i switched to sertraline.

Ive been feelin loads better last few weeks but past few days iv lost my appetite feel sick n tired racing heart n shaky (all anxiety, side effects i had when started meds) so it made me worried that im going backwards.
