Am active 80yr old but within 5weeks had 3 falls, first 2 thru slipping on grass verge and on flooring tape in shopping arcade. Only shaken up and sore knees.Last one was 2weeks ago when getting up from chair and slipper not on propery I went flying and ankle went under me. Had to bum my way to bedroom to get husband's help. In morning ankle up like a balloon and put witch hazel on to bring out bruise. This week I went to Dr who said he didn't think it was broken. I can walk with stick but kept awake in night with pain along side of foot. When sitting with foot up very painful on heel even with resting on cushion. I suffer at the best of times with anxiety and panic attack, which I had CBT for and now can cope, but been taking 1 diazapam since Mon(dr gave me 7)and I still feel anxious and nauseous...is this normal after falls ?

Dear SheMay,
So sorry to hear of your accidents and injured ankle.
I hope you followed the PRICE protocol immediately after ankle sprain. After a bad sprain, you shouldn't attempt to walk unprotected on it (even with a cane) until swelling and pain subside. In fact, you probably should be in a CAM boot (air cast or air boot) from get go to reduce chances of making a simple bad sprain into chronic ankle problems later.
Who knows what is causing your anxiety and nausea? Could be any number of causes, but the stress and trauma of your accident, and possibly side effects from your meds, could be factors. It will surely pass as you get better and stronger.
Good luck to you.

HI Shemaywill,
Boy, do I know your pain! I fell on my slipper a yr ago! And guess what? I will not put slippers on again! They are banned from my feet! lol
I did have the anxious and nauseous feelings after my injury and after my surgery. Not sure why but I can only guess its because I'm scared of anything like this happening before. Pain from the injury and pain from the surgery. It did subside, thankfully!
I wish you luck!
Please have them do an MRI on your ankle. I never had one until almost a yr later and that is when he found my injuries were much more severe than what 3 other docs told me.
Good luck!
Rose
