I had a huge Bakers cyst before my tkr 13 weeks ago. My surgeon drained it during the op (it was the same leg), but told me that it might come back. He also explained how they can rupture and the pain going down the back of the calf is apparently very bad and lasts for days. I've not had one rupture, but mine came back soon after the op. It's not as big as before, but very hard and uncomfortable when trying to bend.

Now that yours has ruptured, Jacqui, I'm not sure if there's still the possibility that it might come back. Bakers cysts are caused by arthritis, and are a build-up of fluid in a sac behind the knee. They can be drained, like mine, disappear naturally, or I think that they can be removed surgically.

Hope yours settles down soon and doesn't reappear. Best of luck.

2 weeks seems like an awfully long time, Jacqui. Have you talked to your GP or surgeon? It's hard enough coping with the tkr, but to have this happen to the other knee! Let me know how you get on.

That is good news, Jacqui, and I'm glad to hear the tkr is doing well. So is mine! Take care.
