Hi , I was diagnosed with ruptured bakers cyst 7 weeks ago and it remains swollen from my knee to my foot ...really hard and tight ..I too have osteoarthritis. .I had ultra sound to rule out DVT but no X Ray ..the pain is indeed excruciating and very hard for people to understand the extent of it ..I am currently awaiting an appointment with privately orthopaedic surgeon as it has only been seen in hospital by ordinary doctors ,meanwhile I am struggling to get around as swelling and hardness not improving .I do hope this is some help to you ..I was told by my GP that recovery takes a long time .

Hi Tina thanks for replying my leg feels just the same really tight when i first ruptered OMG the pain was horrendous i first noticed some swelling n my foot and a few days later it just went while i was out shopping !! I am too waiting to go private i was hoping by now it would be getting better but it seems its a long way off that who would think a little lump at the back of your knee can cause so much pain !!

I had never even heard of it before ,mine started giving me trouble about 6 weeks before it ruptured. .I was at my daughter's wedding and felt the back of my knee starting to pain me ..I really thought it was down to all the dancing and mingling .. but over the next 6 weeks it just got worse and I was struggling to walk..still didn't go to docs as thought it was the osteoarthritis. .I finally went to docs and she thought I had DVT send me to hospital for ultra sound as I was waiting to be seen it ruptured. ..I will never forget the pain and then the ultrasound as they were pressing down was horrendous. .they had to stop and I had to go back 4 days later and have it done again ... they just told me it was ruptured bakers cyst and would take a long time to heal... I wasn't happy as all they could do was give me painkillers and anti inflammatorys neither of which were any good ..when I asked to do see an orthopaedic surgeon I was told there were none in the hospital ..back to GP and waiting list 18 months to 2 years and travel 100 miles ...so I decided to go private as I am not at all satisfied with the way it continues .. leg and foot and ankles huge and mottled. ..surely there is something they can do for us ..you wouldn't leave an animal in such discomfort ..my leg feels as if I am carrying a bag of cement

Hi I had a very large bakers cyst at the back of my knee and was worried sick because I was due to have my TKR but my consultant said it would be fine and they would sort it out during my surgery well everything went fine but the day after surgery my foot was completely red and all up the back of my leg doctors said it was congealed blood caused through the bakers cyst bursting during surgery 3 weeks post op and it's now starting to fade so try not to worry x
