If you have not been seen recently by ENT or vestibular specialist then you should get seen ASAP. Some of what you describe could be down to BPPV but it is important to exclude other possibilites with MRI and full assesment.

Meniere's does not normally cause migraine. If it turns out you do have Meniere's then significantly increasing your Betahistine dose is a good route to go - it sorted me out.

Further to Tanny's comment I have a touch of BPPV and do the Epley manoeuvre at home myself when it gets troublesome. There are excellent videos on YouTube demonstrating it but make sure you have someone with you if you try it to kep you safe.

      Good luck.

stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and it is caused by chalky fragments (otolyths) escaping into your semicircular canals. Then when your head moves they move stimulating the dizzyness. If you the keep still the vertigo should stop in 30 to 60 seconds. If that is not the case something else may be going on which is why you should ask for an urgent ENT review.

Hi Valerie.  Your symptoms sound like a combination of migraine induced meniere's disease + BPPV (crystals out of place) but without further testing an accurate diagnosis is difficult.  May I suggest that you request your ENT doctor  send you to a neurotologist (ENT with sub specialty in inner ear diseases) who can put you through vestibular testing to determine what the cause is of your symptoms.   Vestibular testing takes a couple hours but is the only way to really know what the cause is.  Once the cause is determined then a treatment protocol would be set up for you.  It is important that you be proactive on this, Valerie.

As a separate step you might want to get tested for BPPV (crystals).  This test takes only a few minutes and is administered by a vestibular (balance) rehab technician.  It is a very benign process and if you do have BPPV then the rehab person can correct the problem right in their office.  Good luck!  Please keep us informed about how you progress....

Hi Tanney, mine is BPPV and I do the Epley manoeuvre myself which moves the crystals from one part of the ear to another. Once they are moved the dizziness goes away. It was a locum doctor who showed me the manoeuvre about 7 yrs ago and I use it all the time

I feel so bad for you, I just went through vertigo and dizziness for two weeks went to the doctors and they gave me prednisone . I also take Sudafed . The Sudafed seems to help he wasn’t sure why.  I’m going to start a local honey to see if that helps because it could be related to allergies. No one can live like we do. It is the worst disease plus you lose your hearing . I will pray for you and let us know when you feel bette.r. Try sidefed PE and see if it helps. Can’t hurt plus Bonnine

Hi Valerie, have you done the Epley manoeuvre. If you haven't, Google it and do it several times. It sounds as though you have fluid behind your ear. It usually affects my right. Has the doctor looked in your ears. I have to have my tight one syringed tomorrow.

Hi Valerie, it seems like you might be suffering from Vestibular migraines. I have been diagnosed with VM in October of last year, after suffering for over a year with similar symptoms. First step is to have an MRI to rule out any other causes, then go see an ENT specialist. Basically if after having an audiology test your hearing seems fine ( not deteriorating)then you don’t have MD. With the mention of migraines it’s possible that it’s VM; i am on Betahistine 3x a day and Amytriptalin up to 3 at night for the migraines. This medication works for me, I still have some bad days/nights but overall I really shouldn’t complain as prior to that I had some horrible days/nights. Also diet is really important as it can trigger the migraines which in turn trigger vertigo. Low or no salt and sugar, no chocolate(any type) no caffeine, no coke, certain types of alcohol, reduce/stop smoking, certain fruits and veg; take care with environmental triggers like smell, light, stress and hormones(period). Hope it helps, but definitely go see an ENT first.
