Banding internal hemorrhoids

Has anyone had success with rubber band ligation for internal hemorrhoids? I've had it done over 3 months ago and I have been feeling worse than I ever. Will be trying that procedure again and hoping it will help me this time.

I had 3 banded about 6 weeks apart. the first one was brutal! the 2nd was also but at least I was expecting it. 3rd one was a breeze. I thought that maybe the first 2 were connected in some way. It's been almost a year since first one and I'm much happier. You should be calling your Dr to go back there may be something wrong. I called my Drs nurse on her special number every other day for the 1st one. Why are you feeling worse than ever?

Thanks for your reply. So there is hope that banding will help? When I got this hemorrhoid banded back in Dec. it didn't feel all that bad but within a week the hemorrhoid was back worse than before. I have had a lot of pain, pressure and discomfort just about everyday since then. I did go back and to see the surgeon who did it (about six weeks later) and he suggested I leave it be, as it is only a medium size. Why didn't he say that the first time I saw him?  So he said if I can't live like this he suggested surgery. So I decided to get a second opinion from a different surgeon, and he suggested we try banding it again. Unfortunately this is taking months, but I'm hoping it is worth the wait as I have more confidence in this doctor. But I wasn't to sure if anyone has had success with this procedure cause I have seen a lot of negative feedback online from other forums.

Gastroenterologist, right? I never thought of mine as a surgeon. I went there for  colonoscopy and the Doctor who did it said to me, you can have those hemorrhoids banded if you’d like there is another doctor in my practice who does that. Up until then, I never really heard of banding. You can only have it done on internal hemorrhoids is my understanding.  The Doctor Who banded them, told me that some people have it done and they go right back to work that afternoon. So I expected that it was going to be no big deal. However, I thought it was torturous Lee painful! Especially the first one because she told me about people going to work that same afternoon. After that one was done and I went back 6 weeks later for the next one I realized that she never had this done so she doesn’t know anything about how it feels! My doctor believes that you should only do one at a time, something about the tissue in your butt is too sensitive to do more than one at a time. I would certainly recommend bending to anyone who asked me.

    Hi Jay81115

I had 3 internal ones banded 4 days ago and I felt uncomfortable for the first two days as they swell up before they get better but now I can barely feel them so I’m hoping that’s a good sign. There was a tiny bit of bleeding when going to the toilet but that has now stopped too so I’m hoping this is working for me. So far the signs have been positive!

      Hi jake31434

Keep us posted on how well you are doing. I know that within a week mine was back and I assume the surgeon may have done something wrong or maybe it was me. No luck. But I would like to hear positive reviews. I do take fibre supplements daily, drink a lot of fluids through out the day and eat vegetables with every dinner. So I think I am doing all the right things. I'm hoping the second time this gets banded it will work for me cause I dread the thought of surgery.

mary90364 - I take it you had surgery right? I read that it is very painful and a long recovery.

Jay I had them cut out. The operation went okay in October but the surgeon told me in December it was difficult as i had four internal and two external. I had to stay in overnight as I was a bit sick after it. The nurses were great and got out the next day after I could pee. I was never in alot of pain as what I have read on this site. The first BM was painful as you do not know what to expect. After each BM I had a shower then changed it to sitting in a hot bath. For breakfast I ate bran flakes and added either raspberries or blackberries. Eat lots of fruit, vegetables and high fibre diet. Drink lots of water. Took short walks and built this up. By December I was okay. Hope this helps you

I had four internal and two external removed by cutting them out in October last year. When I went back to my surgeon in December he told me the operation was difficult. I was not in alot of pain as some people have said. I was given lactulose and fybogel for BM and for pain I was given paracetamol and dihydrocodeine. The first BM was painful as you do not know what to expect but do not force it just let it take its time. After each BM I took a shower then changed it to sitting in a hot bath. Drink lots of water and eat a high fibre diet.

I had banding done 1 year ago and 4 dats later ended up in surgery and 4 day hospital staywith a thrombosed hemorrhoid that had been banded.

I had hemorrhoidectomy surgery this year in January and 2 weeks ago had to go back for second surgery due to developing stenosis .  I can say this surgery was far more painful than the banding and 2 week recovery I was told I would need to be off work was a joke also- as I am still off work until next Monday after having second procedure to help with stenosis.

I can say hemorrhoids are literary a pain in the Ass!

Like you it was about 6 days after the banding when I felt a lot of pain . Unfortunately this happened right around Christmas so the doctor's office was closed for a couple of weeks. When I did go back to see this doctor, he said it probably was thrombosed. I get pain now daily and it intensifies as the day goes on. The wait times are brutal. It took me 2 months to see the new doctor for a consultation and now I have to wait another 3 months for the procedure. It really is a pain in the ass!

EVERY doctor's office has a doctor on-call. They would rather have you call than suffer. Think of yourself more than the doctor. They get paid!!

      Hi Goldenluck,

I meant the office of the gastroenterologis?t who did the banding was closed during the holidays. I did see my family physician around Christmas, but all he could do at that time was prescribe suppositories which relieved some of the symptoms. Unfortunately where I live to see any specialized doctors, the wait times can be very long. When I had my routine colonoscopy exam done I waited 2 years for the appointment (unless you want to pay privately). So I'm taking every ones advice on staying on a high fiber diet and drinking lots of water to make sure I feel better until I see the new gastroenterologis?t in 3 months.
