Bariatric surgery nhs

Hi,
I wondered if any one could give me some advice or share their personal experiences please?
I am currently on the waiting lost to have bariatric surgery. I have an appointment this week with a consultant to discuss which option i feel would be best for me. I originally was going to opt for the band but one of the specialist nurses advised me against it due to my age and having to make regular trips back to the hospital (i live about an hour away) so my next thought was the gastric bypass. I have been doing some research in to it and it sounds really good but there seems to be a lot of risks and potential complications so now I am unsure weather to opt for the sleeve instead. I am 29 years old and weigh around 23 stone so have a lot of weight to lose and the only health problem i have is an under active thyroid. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! 😃

Hey Jade,
congrats on the choice to have surgery I have also made the same choice I am having the sleeve done in Aug I to struggled with the decision on which surgery to have. I talked to several people who had the sleeve done and did a lot of research with my support person (Person who will be with you during and after surgery) I also had to take an online seminar before I even got a consultation with the Dr, my advice to you is have questions for your doctor to ask them. They will be able to answer any questions you have and do your research on your own the sleeve is less evasive then the bypass

Hey,
so the appointment was today. I'd been sent a presentation from the consultant prior to the appointment about the different procedures and what the benefits and complications of each could be. after discussing with him, the dietician and the specialist nurse i have opted for the sleeve. so im not officially on the waiting list which could be up to 2 years (thanks to covid!) haha.
August isnt to far away, I hope all goes well for you! if you remember by then let me know how you get on! 😃

Glad you made that choice I am the type of person to talk myself out of stuff and especially since I get super anxious at the doctors and hospital I'm trying really hard to not talk myself out of this I think once I pay what my insurance wont which is a good bit of money maybe i wont talk myself out of it. keep me updated on your progress
