Yes I had a barium x-ray recentley, it went very well. You are asked to swallow the barium at intervals and they take x-rays. They get good information from the test.

    Hi there,

I know this was over a year ago, but did you ever figure out your swallowing issues?  I've had difficulty swallowing since the start of January and have been to my primary care doctor, an ENT and now a GI.  I've had an endoscopy, which appeared to show everything is ok but today I get to have a barium swallow test.  I'm just wondering how this will work since I'm having issues even swallowing liquids...so I'm not sure how I'll even be able to drink this!  Did your problems ever clear up??  I'm starting to feel pretty discouraged.

Yes it's a very simple test. You just drink a very thick mixture while the doctor looks at your digestive tract under fluoroscopy. The barium just lines your digestive tract so it's visible under xray. The doctor will probably have your rotate around to get it coated, swallow a few times, lay in different positions, and drink while standing up. It takes about 15-20 minutes. The only downside is passing the barium solution afterwards. You may get a bit constipated from it.

i have had both barrium swallow xrays done in facilities with less the.desirable equipment and in state if the art equipmentand would have to say that state of the art will give you tha ability to watch where you have oroblems and a speech oatholigist that interacts well with latients is a must. You dont want ine who ignores what they see and tries to convince you she knows best. I have had many years dealing with this and change up speech oatholigist and equipment hospitals have till you get the answers you need.

My right side no longers gets the signal to work properly and my food drink only goes diwn one side if my throat, and it showed on my front view finally, no symetry their. I have also had camera done to.

best advice i have learned from years if dealing with this is dont always take what they are saying as the truth you can get an second opinion its your body you kniw whats best.

A few helpful tios swallow to the side that works better, keep your mouth throat moist with natural mouthwashes. And get a bed that allows you to raise your bed from the hips up as. ot yo forse fluid up into your esophagus. Best rule nothing to eat 2 hours before bed. if yu have mktility issues there is medications that you soecialist can apply for you for better motility. night time is when you end up with asperation pnemonititis. Hence a motion. bed best investment ever
