Barretts

I've had GORD for 35yrs, had gallbladder removed in 1997, had nissen done in 2000. In the past year I've had problems swallowing and lots of pain. I had endoscopy on 03/03/15 and at that time the nurse said I had an ulcer at the bottom of gullet and both stomach and gullet were very red and inflamed. I was put on omeprazole 20mg x 2 a day. I've now received the biopsy results and this is what it says - they show inflammatory changes with ulceration within the gullet owing to acid reflux.  I would be very grateful if someone could tell me is this now Barretts disease.  Thanks for your time.

kindest regards

I can understand your frustration and concern, but I suggest, having had an endoscopy if there was evidence of Barretts they would have said directly.

From my understanding Barretts shows up directly from an Endoscopy, it certainly did with mine, and the consultant told me immediately after the Enoscopy.

You should press to find out what the inflamation means!

Hi, thanks for your reply, I really appreciate your response.  I was told at the endoscopy that the results would go to GP but I received them from the hospital. I'm not sure if the GP will have the same letter as me or if it will be more detailed. I have an appointment with GP next week to discuss this and will have another endoscopy next month. I was more concerned that the results said 'inflammatory changes' that made me wonder if it was barretts.

      Kindest regards
