Barretts and oesophageal ulcer

i have had a hiatus hernia plus gastric reflux for about 6 years (well it was diagnosed then. I am now 59. My hernia moves often and that with the reflux periodically causes great pain. Another episode occurred recently and I had an endoscopy which revealed a small amount of barretts and an ulcer sitting on one of the areas of barretts. I was advised to double my lanzoprazole to 60mg daily and go for another endoscopy in 6 - 8 weeks. My biopsy results have come back as " what is in keeping with the barrets and oesophageal ulcer - no surprises - so I have made my appointment for 7 weeks bu now the endoscopist wants to see me earlier than 7 weeks. Should I be worried?

time it happened it drove me to the docs thinking I had some form of heart attack. It can happen anywhere and not just lying down. On my last episode it left me with back pain. I think also connected with the recent ulcer diagnosed after another endoscopy. This endoscopy revealed the barretts and ulcer... Neither of which was there two years ago. I have no stomach problems at all. I only say it is my hernia moving because it is not a constant thing...the doctor doesn't seem to know..... When first diagnosed with hernia and GERD I had all the swallowing thing , reflux, and severe ulceration of the oesophagus which was treated. The weird chest thing only started over the last two years. When I suggest this to the doc they seem to nod sympathetically but can't quite answer it so it is a bit if self diagnosis. Anyway all agree it is time for the Fundoplication op. Sorry can't help with the tummy thing. Good luck

30mg lansoprazole is the normal maintenance dose with 60mg being prescribed if 30mg is insufficient - as in your case. You may find it reduced again in a few weeks if symptoms reduce - which will be shown up in the follow up endoscopy to see if the ulceration has gone.
The good news is your Barrett's is "normal" - ie no dysplasia.
