Just started on the same quest and it is tough.  A lot of surprised too.  Food I figured to be acid forming were not, or visa versa.  Same with Alkaline forming foods.  There are numerous websites that list the acidic / alkaline forming foods.

However, a journal of which foods do what seems to be the best form of developing a personal diet.   Just started that myself and it is hard, but know better in the long run.

Portion control seems to be a major factor too.  Balancing the two food groups and not eating too much of either.

Label reading is important for store bought packaged foods.  Discovered that by accident.  Read that Aloe Vera juice is good to drink for helping - bought some at the market - took a sip - felt like I drank acid all by itself.  I THEN read the ingredients label and discovered that Citric Acid is listed as ingredient No. 2.

I try to stay with organic foods now as much as possible.  Although starting my diet recently, seems to be working very well.  Of course, the next endoscopy will be proof in the pudding.

Colleagues are right, stay off the coffee, tea, alcohol, fatty & processed foods, really hard but you will be much better if you do.  Fish and well cooked vegatables are good, as is chicken.  The Aloe Vera juice is good, but make sure you get a good brand, I find Nettle and Fennel tea good really soothing, but dont drink too hot.

Probiotic yoghurts and jelly and all berry fruits are good.

    Best wishes

      Hi Lorraine,

Thanks for your reply, my condition is strange they were looking to the reason to my swollen stomach and found barretts. I don't have to go for three years so i guess it is not bad the reason i am looking for good foods is in 3 years i want it to be the same and not progressed.

I have cut out fizzy juice which made me ill as i drank it a lot. I will look into Aloe Vera and probiotic Youghurts thanks for that. I am one of the lucky one's not getting any pain at the moment.

Hi tambdy. It seems a few of us are in the same boat as you. I was diagnosed with Barretts a couple of weeks ago and I am struggling with my diet. An added complication for me is that I am taking Warfarin which means I have to cut out all foods containing Vitamin 'K' so I am in the middle of my investigations. There doesn't seem to be a tried and tested diet regime for Barretts which is surprising when you consider the number of people who have got it. If I come up with anything I will post in on this forum.

I find all tea whether caffinated or decaffinated not good, but am OK with most herbal teas, except of course pepermint, but Green, fennel, nettle, Chamomile etc all good.

Hi Tambdy and group.  I was diagnosed last January and the diet thing is interesting since I've been vegan for 12 years!  I rarely eat fried foods, but coffee, martinis and eating late meals were very bad for me!  Felt like lava was in my throat.  Now I try not to eat after 7:30 - sleep by 11 and I sleep on a wedged bed - that has really helped.  I do miss my martinis thought!  Don't forget your magnesium!
