Bartholin Cyst and Word Catheter problems :(

Hi everyone I had a large BC on my right side which was very painful and about the size of a ping pong ball. After trying sitz baths and hot compresses for a few days I saw my OBGYN. She drained it in the office (which was one of the worst experiences of my life, even with a local anesthetic it was excruciatingly painful) and inserted a word catheter.

The procedure happen yesterday and after getting home there were a few times where I felt very nauseous, dizzy and sweaty although I did not vommit. I think maybe because the anesthetic wore off and the pain was intense. Anyway, I have been in a ton of pain ever since and after examining the site I realized there are two incisions- one where the word catheter is inserted and the other is on the inside of my labia minora (inner lip).

Today I have noticed that my labia minora is very very swollen (about 4-5 X larger than normal) and its difficult to do anything even getting up to use the bathroom. I was wondering if this was maybe normal since there are two incisions (also could not find another person online with 2 incisions so did not know if the doc made a mistake or something). I do not have a fever and do not really feel ill, just super uncomfortable down there. I've been taking ibuprofen and hydrocodone as scheduled by the doc and have also been using ice to hopefully get rid of the swelling.

I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience? I called the on-call doc and was told this was probably just the balloon of the catheter (which holds is in place) but I believe that the balloon should be in the actual gland not in my labia minora. I think that I can feel the balloon in the gland but the labia is very swollen, like I said. I don't think the doc understood what I was saying and seemed very rushed.

Anyway, I am very worried and wonder if I should go to the ER or if I should wait till Monday to go back to the office. If someone has any advice please help! Thanks so much

Are you still feeling sweaty and nauseous? Did you get any antibiotics when you got your catheter put in? I've had several word catheters, none of which were successful or stayed in as long as they should have. I have never heard of two incisions with the catheter either. If you are in a lot of pain, bleeding excessively or feeling chills/nauseous, it may be worth it to go to the ER since it could be an infection. However, since you are the one experiencing the discomfort, it's entirely up to you. I would also maybe suggest calling your doctor to see why you have two incisions.

I called her and she ordered me an antibiotic. I guess the second incision wasnt an incision at all and was actually where the cyst ruptured and drained. And no I only felt nauseous when I got done with the procedure, well after I got home. I also have another appointment on Monday with my doctor to check it out and make sure things are alright. Thanks so much for your help smile
