Bartholin cyst excision surgery recommended by GYN oncologist even though I have no symptoms??

Hi my name is Julie and I came across this site while searching for experiences other women have had after Bartholin gland cyst excision. I am 33 years old and I've had this cyst on my right side for about 4 years now, it doesn't bother me and I often forget its there. At my annual GYN appointment I asked my doctor about it because I noticed a hard smaller cyst that felt like a tiny marble on the same side. After reviewing my MRI I was referred to a GYN oncologist who recommended an excision saying this was the only way to rule out cancer though it is very rare. I had no idea how much recovery time and pain was involved until I came across this forum. My surgery is next week but I'm considering postponing, I've been super nervous and have had so much anxietyover this. I am asking if you've ever been in a similar situation or have had the surgery if you can please share your experience? Thank you in advance!!

    Hi Julie,

I realize I'm sort of late in replying seeing as you posted 4 weeks ago and now given the crisis we're in. But here's my answer anyway!

I had my entire gland removed at the beginning of October 2019. I had the surgery on a monday and i was back at work the following monday. there was pain but the infected cyst pain i had suffered with (for 8 years) was a lot worse. I was in bed, at home, for 5 days. What really helped with the swelling and pain was ice packs. I had several on rotation. Now I'm fully healed and I don't feel a thing. My doctor was also a gyn oncologist and she did a fantastic job.

Keep in mind that everyone will have a different experience but don't let it make you anxious. I also read some other women's experiences, and I empathize, but I felt like it scared me more. If you don't have any pain then maybe getting a second opinion might help with your final decision.

    Good luck!
