Bartholin's Abscess pain/soreness?

I noticed a cyst about 10 days ago when I first got my period. It started getting bigger and hurting about 3 days ago. The pain seems to worsen each day. It's now the size of a small golf ball. There is slight itching and it feels firm to the touch. There's pain even when just lying down. I started off with warm towel compresses and then just did my first sitz bath. It seems to hurt more after trying these home remedies. Now, I know it will hurt where the abscess is located but I've noticed my entire left side of my vagina is sore, all the way up to where the hairline ends. Has anyone who's had this experienced the same? I'm trying to avoid the Doc because I've only read stories where it would continually return if drained or lanced in an office vs having it drain on it's own but I'm concerned the infection might be spreading. So again, for those having experienced this or are going through the same thing, are you feeling pain/soreness along the entire side of your vagina where the cyst/abscess is located or is the pain localized to just the cyst/abscess?

Many thanks in advance for any/all input.

I have experienced pain and tenderness on the entire side. Especially after the cyst starts to grow in size. I've been to the doc multiple times. For treatment, they give me meds, apply a warm compress and take warm baths multiple times a day.
