Bartholin's Cyst ruptured 3 weeks ago hasn't healed

Hi, new member here...

Not sure if this is normal or not and not finding much online regarding women's experiences after a bartholin's cyst has ruptured and drained. I had one that was quite small that I noticed about 3 weeks ago - first time ever - and it drained within 2 days after having salt baths and using hot compress. after about 2 weeks of seeming like the pain was gone and it was healing I started noticing sharp pain down there again. looked and it was red with a lump. had lots of sitz baths again and used hot compress and it bled quite a bit so I continued treatment and again a week went by seeming like it may have healed until today its sore and bleeding again after I wiped... the wound from it bursting just isn't healing? anyone experience this and have advice?

Yes I had a bartholins abscess rupture June last year and it still bleeds every couple of weeks. I'm seeing yet another gynaecologist on Monday - so I'll let you know what they say.

    Stay strong

      Hi,

I'm afraid I haven't got any information to pass on. I arrived for my appointment, they didn't seem to have me on their list. I showed them my letter, they scanned it and said my appointment had been cancelled and they were sorry they'd not let me know. I live in UK so no doubt any re arranged appointment will be months away.

      Best wishes

      Hi Victoria,

      I'm sorry to hear that!

I wasn't able to get into my Patient account so it took me a while to respond.

I think I just finally got over my Bartholin's abscess and I wanted to share my experience with you.

It still wasn't going away after seeming to have ruptured and drained a few times in the past couple months, bleeding about once a week and having that sharp pain. I got really fed up with it last week as this week is my "fertile window" and we've been wanting to conceive for a few months now but this damn thing kept getting in the way. I read online after much researching, someone saying you need to make sure it has drained fully otherwise it won't go away... So I guess that was my problem. So last week I sanitized a needle, wiped down my area and washed my hands really well, and poked it with the needle. I didn't even feel a thing but it started to drain immediately. I poked it in 3 different spots on the cyst and squeezed a bunch until it seemed like nothing else was coming out. I then had a hot sitz bath immediately for a half hour, and I put some rubbing alcohol on the cyst afterwards which burned but I think it was a good thing to do. I used a hot compress a few times throughout the rest of the day, and did this all again for the next couple days. Now it seems it has fully flattened and I don't see a lump at all anymore. Not even any redness or anything, just looks fully healed already. No pain either. I am sooo relieved and really hoping it's healed for good now. Hopefully this is helpful info for you...

      Thanks,

      Nicole

Hi Nicole. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have gone down this route in the past but it didn't work for me. I did get it to flatten but it still always came back. In fact the side I did this to I have since had surgery twice and still having problems. I have decided not to try this on the 'new' side (August 2019 so not that new! the old one has been around since Feb 2017)

I am pleased you managed to sort sort yours out. They are such dreadful things. Lots of luck and best wishes V

Hey there! Any luck with your Bartholin's cyst? I would highly recommend making an appointment with a gynaecologist. I got my first abscess in May and it was awful. I went to A&E at the worst point and it started draining there so they just sent me home with some antibiotics. But, it never really fully went away, was bearably sore and kept draining like yours. So, I went to see a specialist and he said that these things hardly ever go away on their own. So, this Tuesday, he did a procedure to excise it. Most people would have a marsupialisation of the cyst/abscess to open it up, but mine turned out to be solid so he opened up the pockets of infection around the cyst and I'm on some heavy duty antiobiotics. He thought there was a 70% chance that what he did would resolve my problem, but if not, I would have to have surgery to open up the gland. Every person / case will be different, so the absolute best thing you can do is to go get it checked. The procedure isn't bad as everyone online makes it seem, as local anaesthetics make it so you can't feel anything and I am already feeling miles better! It is worth it!
