I am suffering from IBS for last 30 years. my problem are cramping, too much gas and some times reflux. I open my bowel once everyday morning , no constipation, no diarrhea . But I am very careful about my diet. I can say i am almost vegetarian. some times I eat fish and chicken only. I tried Buscopen, Mebeverine Hydrochloride, Peppermint Oil, Amitriptilyne with advice of GP. nothing is worked. still cramping and gas. Could anybody advise me what I could do now.

Have you tried the fodmap diet. Or at least avoided certain vegetables and fruits that can cause issues?

Certain vegetables cause me a lot of issues that medication doesn't really help with. Tomatoes and peppers cause issues due to the skin and other vegetables creates a lot of gas which causes cramp and pain.

you very much get back to me. Last 30 years besides GP, I went so many specialist ( Gastroenterologist). not only UK also in Singapore, India. Done several times colonoscopy, Endoscopy, nothing was identified, all blood test , other lots of different test everything was normal. I eat only some wheat flour base bread, rice and vegetable ( carrot, long beans, lemon, spinach and tomato). some times fish and chicken. So I think these food is belongs to low foodmap. still I am suffering. have any more advice please let me know.

Go back to your GP and ask for a different antispasmodic; there are others you can try. Sometimes you have to try several. Try concentrating on a hobby an light exercise to take your mind off your stomach.Try relaxation therapy to help your stress levels. A lack of stress really helps IBS symptoms. Mebeverine made me feel substantially worse whereas Buscopan helped me. Try a food diary to see if what you are eating is flaring up your symptoms or try the low fodmap, diet.

Definitely get refered to a dietician for the low FODMAP diet. I used to have horrendous gas til I went through the diet .

You could also try eliminating dairy to see if you are lactose intolerant. In theory if you have no bowel issues, then you do not actually have IBS. The term is often thrown at any kind of digestive issue that the doctors don't know what it is. It does sound more like you have a good intolerance than anything else.

Thank you very much getting back to me. Off course I have got lactose intolerant. I am not taking any diary product for long time. I think the food I eat is belongs to low food map, like carrot, wheat base white flour bread, rice, long beans, spinach and tomato. Sometimes I eat eggs, chicken and fish. anymore advice please.
