Basically all teeth hurting and sometime jaws hurt

Seventy year old male.  I went to the dentist on 11/18/2016 for a cleaning.  They cleaned my teeth and I had a fluoride  treatment done  ( which I wish I wouldn't have ).  No other dental work was done and I wasn't having any trouble with my teeth to amount to before that day.  Or I should say a week later. Now all my teeth hurt and are sensitive to the touch, like if I tap on them or run my fingernail across them.  It also seemed like my bite got off .  Teeth hitting each other which never happened before.  I have been to several different types of dentist just from a regular dentist, orthodontist ( who sent me to a endodonist) periodontist .  The only problem they can see on the xrays is my number 30 tooth need the root canal redone.  It has a crown and had a root canal done on it about 6 years ago.  Come to find out it was only partially done.

I did have trouble with my tongue burning and my right eye hurting a couple of years ago.  The doctor called it some type of neuralgia but no TN.  He had me on oxycarbazepine, then carbazepine and amitriptilne.  Don't know if this is spelled right.  None of it did any good.  I finally got off all of it and started doing better.

I still go back to the fluoride treatment as having done something but i don't know what.  From what I can tell people with TN that have teeth problem have a different type pain than I have.   Has anyone else have teeth problems like this.  I don't know who to go to,  Any suffestions.

Hi,  try cotacting TN. UK.  You will be able to speak to sufferas of TN . They will also be able to advise you on where you can look for help on several facial pains.  Or go back to your Dr and get a referral for a neurolagyst.  There is also a facial pain society that I found on line.       Try and see you Dr for the Neurolagyst referral  whilst you are looking into things.     I hope you get some more advice and help on this site.

I think I am going to try to see a neurologist and see if he has any ideas.  If all the dentist I've been to can't see anything I guess it has to be something else.  I believe I will have to find someone that has seen something like this before to know what it is.  It is just so strange that it is basically all my teeth.  I am sorry.  I live in the US.  Thanks Angie

Hi John - I was a work one day and a tooth on my let side started to ache and throb.  it lasted or several hours and was taking an over-the-counter med hoping it would ease the pain.  The pain did leave but would return again and again.  I seen my dentist.  After x-rays and examining my tooth, he could ind nothing wrong.  My doctor was the one who diagnosed with me TN.  I finally had an appointment with on Oral Facial Pain Specialist and again, my dental issues were not the problem.  She confirmed my diagnosis as having TN.  I am now in my 11th year with TN and still have teeth problems.  I am now convinced I will have these issues with my teeth and will never go away.  Also, this Oral Facial Specialist will rule out any other problems you ma be experiencing.  She helped me greatly.

    Hi John

Just something else to think about as you mentioned your bite was off and your teeth hit each other is maybe getting that evaluated and potentially getting a night mouthgaurd to stop any kind of silent clenching or grinding of teeth that are uneven as this well just irritate the already problematic nerves. That does not mean it's the cause but it might help to settle the pain in your teeth. But do as everyone says see the Neurologist as they are trained to distinguish most facial pains. We hope it's not TN

Yes I hope it is not TN also.  I did have a night guard made after all this first started but my teeth hurt so bad and the night guard hurt them even more and I can't wear it but I don't feel I grind my teeth.  The dentist made the night guard basically just to see if it would help.  I started putting a little dental wax on a upper tooth on each side to keep them apart until I go to sleep.  The wax is still in the same place in the morning.  It seems like if I did grind my teeth the wax would be gone.  Just a thought.  Also I think that most people that grind their teeth do it for years.  My problem just started overnight so I don't know.  I am going to the doctor in a hour or so.  I'll post when I get back.
