Bath board

Had my wound cleaned etc today (I was glued).  Nurse said it was lovely and clean and I can now shower. Here's the problem, I only have a shower over the bath.  I have a loan bath board and was wondering how anyone got on with a board. The thought of showering etc, feels like heaven.  Thanks. Hi well done you! I loved my first shower! It was sheer heaven! You can get seats for the bath! I am still having a shower as my bath is too deep and with my knee I am concerned I might get stuck! Regards Amanda

I was told no way, no how. but after 2 weeks i was desperate for a shower so i put a towel in the bath to make it as non-slip as possible and got in using the board like i get in the car. sit on board, lean back and swing legs in. I put a crutch in the bath first so i could use it to stand up. Go slow and think out each step before you do it. Its totally worth it

I have a regular bathtub with shower after the 14 days i was able to shower with nurses permission of course. It felt like you all said like heaven. lol

I had to lift my leg over the bathtub but had grab bars for balance. Did not raised above 90 degrees which was nice. If your bathtub is higher i suggest grab bars and a little step.

My shower is over the bath too. I haven't a board and didn't shower till 5 weeks. I sat on a stool at the side of the bath. got my good leg in - stood up and my partner helped me get the bad leg straight and over without breaking the 90 degree bend rule. Felt great but I could have done with a long handled sponge to wash my lower legs and feet though.

I used a shower chair for the first 4 weeks. My hubby would get me into the shower then place the chair behind me so I could sit down. I have an older tub which has pretty high sides. I stood sideways parallel to the tub. I lifted my good leg over then tippy toed, bent my bad leg at the knee and stepped into the shower. I do have a grab bar on the shower wall  which really helps. Just make sure you have a rubber mat in your tub so you don't fall.

It also helps if you have a hand held shower too.

Good luck to you! But it does feel like heaven!!!

I used a plastic bird that went across the tub.it also had clamps on the inside so the board couldn't slip. I just say on the edge of the board and picked up each leg into the tub.

I have a bar to pull up to standing. But I also had put a shower sprayer on the shower pipe.So I could take a shower while sitting down until I stand up .it had about six feet of tubing. That way I could hold in one hand shower all over the other hand with wash cloth and soap. I really loved the hot water.felt so good. Enjoy your shower.

It is called a transfer bench here and was great.  Was able to slide in and out.  Showered sitting down for the first couple of weeks then could stand but still had to use the bench getting in and out.  It was a major step when the bench was taken apart and stored in the garage until the next hip is done. We were able to shower from day one in hospital as the dressing was waterproof.

Hi having your first shower is heaven. I was allowed to shower at two weeks. Occupational health Physio at the hospital showed us how to get in and out for an over bath showrr. Didn't need any extra aids and no board. Just stand by the side of the bath with good leg next to bath, put both hands on side of bath, step good leg in followed by operated leg. It works and you don't break the 90 degree rule. Getting out is the same in reverse, step out bad leg followed by good one. I had no problem with this. Good luck whatever method you use and enjoy!

Hi Crossy I have the same as you, a glued wound, a shower head over the bath, I put a rubber bath mat in the bath and just was very careful, not scrubbing too much and getting out quickly...just in case...but I was fine. Just be careful and you should be fine.

    Kind regards Ian.

Hi! I brought these amazing suction hand grips that I placed on the wall of my bath (they suction to anything), I used to sit on the bath board, hubby would then lift my legs up and swing them into the bath so I could then stand and shower using the hand grips, it just made me feel very stable, you can get them online or at Diy stores very cheaply, best of luck! I go in for my op on Tuesday, and showering over my bath is what is concerning me, as no one has really explained this at the hospital when I went to hip and knee replacement group.
