Hi hippies

All I want is a long luxurious bubble bath, I am seven weeks post RTHR and mamaging using the shower but I want a bath so much.

Can anyone tell me when I will be able to get down into it and how safely to get up and out of the bath.

Thanks

Susan

Hi Susan, depends on your surgeon. Mine told me I had to wait 3 months but I havent had a bath for years due to problems getting out so it wasnt a problem to me. Ive since done away with the bath and put a walk in shower in. Sorry no advice on how to get out. I used to do the whale roll as I called it. Turned over and pulled myself up on end of bath.

    hi Susan

I'm the same - I love my baths! After my first thr last year I was told it was three months before I could sit in the bottom of the bath. I considered buying a bath seat but that wasn't going to be very relaxing, so in the end I did wait the 3 months.

I bought a bath step to help with climbing in and out (so that the bottom of the bath and the floor are at the same level) and leaning forward, held onto the sides of the bath to step in. The tricky bit was lowering myself down holding all my weight on my arms. I usually went down with a bit of a bump! As for getting out, a nurse friend suggested having a towel within reach to pull myself up with by looping it round the taps. Once up, step out onto the (non-slip) bath step leaning forward and holding onto the bath sides as before. I practised fully clothed with a friend present and no water in the tub before doing it for real on my own.

As has been reported on the forum recently some of the previous restrictions may now have been relaxed, so at six weeks after my second thr I am going to check with my surgeon how soon I can sit in (or rather lie in!) the bath. Can't wait!

Hi Susan. I was in a hot therapy pool one week post removal of staples. The getting in and out of tub is the difficult thing. Do you have a pole that you can hold on to pull yourself out or someone to help you in and out?

I will be 2 weeks post op on Tuesday. This is my second hip in 18 months. I used the bath from the day my stitches were taken out last time and hope to do the same this time.

I found it easiest to get in and out on all fours so using my knees as well as arms .

    Good luck x

I love being in the bath, but I stuck with showers for 3 months. I actually found it quite tricky to get out at first, but it would be a bit easier if you had grab bars maybe?

My doctor's office said after the twelve week check up. No tubs, hot tubs, or pools. Hard to believe but I don't want to risk an infection!

I had BTHR 9 weeks ago. I waited until I healed to point where water couldn’t compromise my sutures. For me it was 8 weeks. Really loved my first bath.  Im planning on going back into ocean this week. Good luck.
