BEANS

I miss my black beans , I stopped eating beans after medically diagnosed with Diverticulitis because of all the scare of the bean skin getting in the pockets! Does ANYONE on here still eat beans? ARE beans totally forbidden? 😦

Mike and Greg you too say you eat beans, now you all haven't had the surgery have you?

i stopped eating all greasy, oily, deep fried foods. cut out all dairy products and red meats. No more dark soda. i have lost 20 lbs since last June and am usually ok unless i slip up on my diet. it is a daily battle though. i have days that i get tired and miss eating certain foods but the payoff is better than the alternative.

To your original question, beans, peanuts and anything with any kind of skin is not on my menu. Fruits and veggies only of they're soft. Bananas, seedless watermellon, are ok.

My hospital dietitian said put beans in the blender and puree them and you don't need to worry about the skins.

I have been afraid to eat beans too other than green beans. I miss black beans and baked beans. I have tried refried beans but rarely. I have not eaten any red meat or sodas since my extremely bad diverticulitis attack 2 years ago. I do eat salad now once a week or so. I no longer eat blueberries because of their skin. I no longer eat oatmeal but I miss it. Avocados are a main stay for me now and canned fruit.

Does anyone eat broccoli ? I would like to but I am afraid to stray outside of the safe things. My pain was so intense I never want to be there again if I can avoid it.

I do eat Broccoli but cooked NEVER raw~ I eat it really often! I thought Avocados was a no no? I love Avocado. I want to try the beans thanks to the person who said puree. What I think I will do is cook up some and puree them and put in fridge to eat on for a few days. I can't do oatmeal any more but do from time to time do cream of wheat! I eat eggs (boiled) and LOTS of strained yogurt (plain) I add raw honey with it and when I want a nice treat I take my plain strain yogurt add peanut butter and top that with raw honey makes an awesome and very tasty healthy treat! I buy the Fage strained Yogurt. Question on vegetarian re-fried beans with no LARD in the ingredients do I have to puree them or would they be okay because of re fried? I want to try something new but at the same time keep it safe because for two years basically nothing but a big pot of chicken vegetable soup that I cook up or veggie tv dinners from Schwans , or mash potatoes, green beans , carrots, mashed sweet potatoes casserole mixed with carrots. I eat no beef or pork !

Hello, I peel the stems of my broccoli before I steam them and haven't had any problems.

I feel for all of you! I'm almost a month out from surgery. I only had one issue with beans pre-surgery, I made chicken chili about a week after my 2nd hospital stay. I had immense pain the next day. It was obviously too soon for that. So, far I can eat most anything, but in much smaller quantities. It's easy to over eat after resection. I do love beans and toast🤤👍🏻.

I read so many reports from people who become terrified to eat so many things, "just in case". Bit like the panic buying of loo rolls and soap at the moment. All I can advise is that you try just a little bit, and see if it affects you. That way you might be pleasantly surprised and just remember to stick to small amounts in future.

I recall one forum member who stopped eating almost everything and stayed indoors most of the time, "just in case". They went reluctantly to a family gathering, tried a tiny amount of something, was absolutely fine, and realised they had their life back. I eat most things now, but can't take full fat or too much gluten. I just eat healthily and have been flare free for almost 4 years now, after 3 attacks in 6 months. Everyone is different so it's trial and error, not fear and hiding away.

Folk are losing their minds atm mate🤣🤣. Folk buying loads of bog rolls are obviously fueling the panic.

i am on the same boat. Fatty , greasy foods are a no no for me though. Dairy is also an issue. For me it's a daily choice to eat right and stay pain free or not to lol.

I gave up red meat and cut way back on fried foods, I still enjoy a little popcorn from time to time, look for the popcorn labeled hulless, as for beans, I don't have a problem. My body let's me know ahead of time to ease off something.
