Bed wetting

Hello my 11 year old daughter has LS which was diagnosed when she was 4 and over the last few years she has suffered occasionally .  However for 2 days she has complained of discomfort on and off and then last night and again this morning she woke in distress And had wet the bed on both occasions.  This has never happened before and she's 11.  Has anyone else experienced this with their child too ?

It sounds like an Urinary tract infection to me. The sooner you get it checked out the better. That has happened to me several times when I've had an UTI. She can have an UTI without any other symptoms.

We went to the GP with a urine sample this morning and he said it was clear .  He thought the bed wetting was because of LS even though thus never happened before . So I'm very confused ...

Poor thing.  I remember at that age dreaming that I was on the toilet and wetting the bed...I was so upset with myself...so it may just me the odd occurrence.  Or it could even be allergy related.  Has she had something different to eat or drink the past few days?...or has she had a large drink before bed?  It's good there is no UTI...but I'm sure she is very upset about this...and the discomfort is disturbing. I would play it safe and give her some lemon water throughout the day which could clear up any bacteria the urine test may have not shown.  A great remedy for a UTI if you are unable to get to the doctor right away is to juice 3 lemons and drink it...be sure to rinse out your mouth afterwards as it eats the enamel on your teeth. Hold your urine for as long as you possibly can...as the longer this sits in your bladder the longer it has to do it's job.  I usually do this morning, noon and night and 99% of the time have beat the infection as I've caught it early and haven't had to go on medication.

I'm so sorry to read this... my diagnosis was not till post-menopause and my heart to goes out to your daughter who has a LS diagnosis so young.   Whilst i have no directly comparble experience, once you have checked out that there is no UTI, my own flare ups centre round the urethra area and i experience a distressing urge to pass urine especially at night.  Having prided myself on never needing the loo at night, I now often wake with pressure on the urethra 2 or 3 times a night when I'm having a flare-up.  I wonder if the same thing is happening to your daughter but she is not actually waking up?  If you read the LS literature, there are a number of references to how it can affect the urethral area.

Thinking of you and especially your daughter

I wish there had been an UTI!!! That would have made everything much easier...

No, just thinking that it is possible that some fusing is making it difficult for her to feel when she has to pee or not.

I'm so sorry to hear that your eleven year old daughter has to suffer this complicated skin disease.  I recommend putting her in baking soda baths every other day (one third of a cup in the bath)  or in case you have no bath, instead to purchase a sitz bath and add a few teaspoons of baking soda in there.  Let her be in the bath as long as the water is comfortable in temperature.

Also soothing are baking soda rinses after every bathroom visit. I use a perin bottle for that.  Three pinches of baking soda in the luke warm water.

    Hope this will help.

Hi Debbie. I have had this problem myself after being diagnosed 4 months ago with LS (i am 63) it is very upsetting when it happens wether you are 11 or 63 but in my experience it settles down and only happens rarely.you can tell her that its not her fault and that its her conditions fault . Reassure her that it is OK and try not to worry too much.

Thank you , I hope she will be ok tonight as I wouldn't want her anxious about wetting the bed again . Fingers crossed
