BEEN GIVEN AN EXTENSION

Hi I asked for the extension by way of Registered Mail and had a reply within a matter of days, so I was pleased about that.  Tomorrow I go to the CAB for help with completing the form but I have managed to get a lot of paperwork to substantiate my PIP Claim, feel that I can do no more It has affected me these past few weeks and made me very depressed - I have suffered for years, nursing patients and lifting them before all the health and safety regs to think I have worked hard all those years and I have come to this?

    HI Sue,

It's good that you have evidence to support your claim. Lots of people don't realise they need evidence and think they contact medical professionals when infact it's very rare they do this.

Expect an assessment as most people have these. It's rare to have a paper based assessment.

There's no time scales to how long it will take to receive an appointment for this, like wise there's no time scales for decisions.

If a home assessment is needed then i'd advice you request this on the form. You'll need a letter from your GP stating the reasons why a home assessment is needed.

Is this your first PIP claim, or a review? or changing from DLA? Good luck.

Hi thanks Denise yes this is the first time I have claimed PIP after being on DLA for over 15 years, I think I will get a letter from my GP about the home visit, would rather let them see how I live and the aids I use I will let you know how I get on my family have been really supportive which helps.  I will be sending everything off Registered Post I do not care how much it costs after the stories I have read it seems the safest thing to do.

      Hi,

You're welcome. The assessment providers can still refuse a home visit even with a letter from a GP. They won't ask to look around your home and will stay in the same room as you during the assessment. As long as your PIP form is received by DWP by the date extension then your DLA will continue until a decision's been made on the PIP. Good luck.
