Been on Citalopram for 3 weeks and want to stop

I started taking 10mg Citalopram for depeession 3 weeks ago, and 3 days ago increased to 20mg under instruction from Dr. I've now decided i really do not want to go down the medication route at this stage, as i feel i'll be trapped in the medication for months, if not years, despite the possibility that ill feel better naturally. i also cannot live with the idea that all my emotions will be numbed (i still want to be able to cry when happy/sad/watching a movie!!!). Do you think, as its only been a few weeks, that i will need to gradually reduce the dose over a course of a few weeks (back to 10mg to start with)?

Celexa does NOT "numb" emotions. It blocks intrusive thoughts and over reaction and helps you think more clearly. It is also fantastic for depression. I was like you, I went on and off eight or nine different drugs until I realized I NEED THE HELP. If you have been diagnosed with clinical depression by a psychiatrist, you NEED the help. A good therapist will help you deal with your life issues and you may not need to stay on the drug for the rest of your life. Me? I feel mentally sound for the first time in ten years or more, especially the last eight after losing my daughter. I'll never stop taking this drug. Best of luck.

    Hi

You won’t be trapped on the meds if you decide to carry on and you won’t have your emotions numbed either. You’ll still be human ..... but a happy human with no depression / anxiety. Lots of people try to go it alone and most of them finally resort to meds. They’re there to help you like any other meds for any other ailment would.

However, if you want to come off meds it might be best to (buy a cutter / crusher) and cut your tablet up into 4 and take 15mg for a week, 10mg for another week, 5mg, 2.5mg, 1.25mg and 0. The last 2 doses you’ll have to crush as the pieces are too small to cut further.

    Good luck xxx
