Been on Sertraline 50mg for nearly 1 year and been experiencing problems again recently

In November I had a panic attack which I haven't had for about 9 months and moods been so much better, depression and anxiety was really so much more manageable. However like I say, November I had a panic attack whilst on holiday, I can't even say why I had one. Now since then my moods have really decreased. Feel so low, no motivation, anxious all time again, really negative thoughts about myself and if it's better if I'm not here. I must add I wouldn't ever try to end my life, the thought of it terrifies me.

But what do I do? Do I up my medication? I had to finish my CBT before I was ready because I have too much going on at the moment  with work & studying. I can't go back to that yet. I just want to hide away from everyone & everything.

I think you should talk to your doctor about raising your dose to 100 mg. I was on 50 mg  and got to a point where it wasnt doing anything so i went up to 100mg. That sorted it out. I wouldnt want to be on them for years on end thow. Im off them now and doing good. Hope this helps xx

How long were you on Sertraline 50 & 100 mg for? And how long you been off them? Was it hard adjusting? I don't want to be on them forever but really scared, not ready yet to go through the adjustment, scared of all the side effects returning.

I was on them for one year. 50mg for first 3 months. First week was rough. Hsd dizzy spells, brain zaps, migranes, insomnia, upset tummy.  I was ok for three months then i didnt feel that they were doing much so doctor put me on 100mg. I was on that dose until last october. I felt confident enough after that to try coping without them so i went down to 75 mg until november. Then 50mg in december and on new years day i stopped taking them. Its been a bit rough, im having head zaps. But its going off slowly. At the end of the day your going to have good and bad days. Thats just life. And there will always be side affects from putting chemicals into your body.

yes, sounds like the best idea, i was on on 50mg, then 75mg, then 100mg and now i'm on 150mg and i haven't had any blips since really, the odd day here and there and when i'm due on and stuff but that's manageable compared to what i was like before, was a horrible time of my life, i've been taking 150mg since about september time and i haven't had any problems, think it's all about finding the right dosage for you also, i work with someone who is taking the same meds as me and he's completely fine on 50mg and has been on them about the same time as me so best of luck for next week :-)

      Hi Nicci,

Glad to read that you are feeling a bit more positive. I understand that life's a battle at the moment but I'm just wondering if you could make room for the CBT again if you felt the benefit from it previously. As Richard says, there's no perfect solution, but anything that helps us move forward on our journey to health is worth trying. I'm just about to start some group and 1-2-1 therapy in the next few weeks. I'm hopeful that it will complement the Sert - I have benefitted from a few sessions of CBT in the past when struggling with chronic depression.

Good luck & stay positive. One day at a time...

      Digsby

      xx
