Hi, i am new so bear with me, im 33 with an 8 year old daughter. I have been on tramadol various strengths for 5 years plus

I am trying to come off the drug for the 3rd or 4th time, previously i have tried but the withdrawal has proven to be too much to take, it started legitimately after a hip op but its got to the point where i am ordering online with a cc paying stupid amounts of money, i have lost several jobs due to my addiction and all i want is to go back to my old self. I have been taking easily 1500mg a day and i have suddenly ran out no money for more and no more prescriptions. I am in this alone not even my doc knows but i wanted to ask for some advise as to how best to get through the withdrawal and how long it will take until i am functioning like a human being again? Please ask any questions you want, im finally ready to be honest and clean! Please note i am based in the uk not usa.

    Hi Patrick,

My advice try to reduce the dose. My case. Control the pain. Since my 'not-so-succesful' TKR operation in Sweden 2013 which ended with a post-op infection. Now, it's chronic. Pus coming out. Change of gauzes twice a day. The pain, the stiffness, swelling etc. Without my Tramadol 50 mg with strong coffee. I could not get  get out of bed. Now, I can still manage and drive and carry a  as a motoring editor.

But,  Tramadol is an opiate. It's addictive. That's why I recuce the dosage. Half a capsule: 25 mg plus two paracetamol pills.  It works.  BTW in Sweden the physicians  prescribed me Oxycontin aka 'Hillbilly Heroin' and plenty of it. Now, I understand why Oxycontin is not allowed here in Thailand. No Thai FDA approval. A drugstore near one of girlie hostess-bars: "Sir, we no have Oxycontin. No have in Bangkok! You buy Viagra, 'blue pill' good price for you!"     What is your experince with Oxycontin?  Best regards, Bangkok-Johnnie

wow you are easily taking over 3 times the recommended dose so you can cause huge amounts of damage to your liver and kidneys. I dont know what methods you have used in the past but it is not easy to come off any addicted dose so whatever you do you will need to be very careful. It is crazy not to let your GP know what is going on as they can be very helpful but mostly coming off any drugs can be dangerous if not properly controlled.

Are you still in pain from the operation or not? Tramadol is normally taken as and when needed and not a constant pain relieving drug. Most people find going cold turkey a very difficult thing to do unless you are very strong minded and aware that doing so can also damage the brain but as you have been on such a strong dose for a long time you will not find it easy to stop. All I can suggest is that you ask your GP for help as a starting point and set yourself a goal each month to reduce by 100mg or whatever you think you can handle.

I wish you good luck and stay in touch here so we can help in any way possible

Hi all, you have made me feel so much more confident and not like some druggie off the street.....

I have a new issue , it looks the indian company have re sent my tablets and they have actually arrived today, i have been sat here for an hour trying to decide what to do....

Continue cold turkey or go to the doc and get a tappering plan rather than go from upwards of 1000mg a day to 0mg? Or is that my mind just thinking yeah this way you get tramadol!!!!!!......i dont know what to do any thoughts??? Thanks all. Paddy.

Wow that is a tough one. I too just ordered from a company as well from

India. My ins co any fill because t would be too soon. No matter what you need to tell your dr that you are addicted to them. Maybe not that you order online because that's not safe but you do need help

Patrick, how long have you been going cold turkey and what side affects are you getting. If you have already begun to stop altogether then try to continue but the minute you start getting bad side affects then take a couple of tablets and then continue to reduce down slowly. Dont try and go too fast. Some people can go cold turkey and after a couple of weeks can be fine but I think with the dosage you have been on for such a long time it would be a mistake to try and stop altogether and you must get your GPs assistance.

Well since you can't taper off there is definitely the Thomas recipe and there's some things that you can do to feel better it's not gonna be a fun ride that you can do it it'll be worth it for your daughter Magnesium helps a lot with the restless leg syndrome's lots of water and I can't believe exercising works make yourself exercise 30 to 40 minutes a day vigourously and electric blanket helped me I didn't sleep for two weeks but either electric blanket helped me and hot baths also chamomile tea at night to help relax me
