Been perscribed blood pressure tablets

I have also got asthma and have a reliver and a preventer. I also have ibs and take medication for that and a underactive thyriod tablet. Now I am having to take this blood pressure tablet. Years ago I used to have my blood pressure monitored every 3 or 4 weeks and I moved gp surgery and they have never asked me to have it monitored regulary. Then I went to see my renal consultant and he has asked my gp to put me on this to preserve my kidney function. I dont want to be on all this medication but I feel I have n0o choice. I have been on the other tablets for about 6 years and the inhalers have been updated a couple of years ago. Will this tablet make my asthma worse?

Maybe you should discuss any questions with your GP best you share any concerns you have. ☺️

Rachel, whatever the particular BP pill is, you can check the leaflet for any possible contra-indications with your asthma, and then, if necessary, seek reassurance from your GP and/or pharmacist - the latter are the best when it comes to medicines.

Hi,like the others say you need to discuss concerns with your doctor. Just one point though when I was given my first Bp tablet I got an asthma like cough,I was told I had asthma and given an inhaler but I thought it was coincidental so I asked for my Bp tablets to be changed and the asthma symptoms disappeared. So if you find your asthma changes it may be worth having that discussion with your doctor.

The cough can be a common side effect but usually clears.

    Hi,

You haven't said what tablet it is they have asked you to take, however they also say don't take if you have kidney disease but they are recommended for such cases.  I would imagine your GP should know your medical history and so would not give you a medication that would compromise your asthma.

It is really important that you take the advice you have been given as kidneys (especially damaged ones) don't like high BP.  Your alternative is not to take it (and I don't mean to sound harsh) risk your kidney function dropping, having to go on dialysis then have a transplant where you would have to take immune surpresent drugs for the rest of your life.  To me its a no brainer take the bp meds.  I am on two BP tablets and seven other tablets daily, Good luck with everything x

Thank you for all the advice. I am going to doctors tomorrow so will discuss it with them. However I have known a few people who have developed cough after bp tablets so was a bit concerned and am grateful to talk to others in same place.

I am just another one who had quite bad breathing difficulties with BP medication and was given inhalers etc. There are many different types/families of BP meds. It is a matter of finding the one that suits you.
