Been struggling. Blip?

Hey all. As most of you know, I've taken cit 10 mg for slmost a year now. For the past couple days, I've been back at square one. I have had some sinus and allergy problems also. I have had blips along the way, but for 3 days its been much worse. Is it due to sinus issues? Do I need to look at possibly increasing dosage? Really dont care to much about increasing. I have been doing great at the 10mg

i would try an increase, 10 mg is a very low dose, maybe you need a bit more, good luck x

Shoot! Sorry to hear! I'd give it at least a week to see if it simmers down. I have sinus issues and they do not seem to make me worse. Meds for it can, but the actual sinus issue doesn't. Unless its causing you to lose sleep? I hope it calms down soon!!

I came off Citalopram completely almost three months ago. It caused me huge sinus issues. My nose was constantly blocked and I had very little sense of smell. My sinuses are now completely resolved and my sense of smell has returned.

i have been on citalopram for about 2 years and i've noticed sinus problems on and off but recently they've increased the dose to 20mg from 10mg and i'm actually quite miserable. sneezing, blocked nose all day everyday in the middle of winter they say it might be dustmite but let me say that its actually making me more miserable than my depression is. How long after you stopped did you notice the sinus issues going away?

Been on it for nearly eight months. The last two days have been bad for me. Shaking, dry mouth & headache.
I'm on 20. I don't know what to do...

one of the side effects of citalopram is sinus issues as they contain antihistamines x

Aren't the antihistamines suppose to be helping to allergies?

Hi Dubury
I saw your private message too. Sometimes a blip can crop up - even after you’ve recovered. It could be some stress has occured, tiredness, maybe some medicines alter your SSRI medicine (just a guess) …….
When a blip starts, your body remembers the past suffering and you immediately start to dread it, start to unconsciously try and fix it, your head starts to race etc etc - so you slip back into the habit again. The fear of it propels it forward, and that fear causes anxiety (the anxiety cycle again).
Since I recovered and stopped taking medicine I did have the occasional wee blip, not bad, just mild, but could tell it was lurking. This usually happens to me when I’m overtired and have taxed my brain too much. As in ‘the’ book, I let the feelings be there, I don’t question them, don’t mull things over, don’t get into the head chatter about it, I slow down, make sure I get my sleep ……. and sure enough the feelings go away. Getting back into the head chatter about the blip and trying to fix it is how you slip back into the anxiety cycle again.
Could it be your sinus issues? Mmmmm maybe not directly, but are you getting stressed about that? I've read that some SSRI's can cause sinus problems with some people. I get seasonal allergy bad which affects my sinuses and I use Beconaise (in the UK) which completely stops all the sinus problems (though still suffer with itchy eyes). My allergy is probably different to yours though ......
Increasing meds isn’t always the answer, especially if you’ve been ticking along nicely on one dose. However, saying that, you could try adding in 5mg maybe to see if that helps, though don’t forget an increase can spike anxiety initially.
So a few things to try - slow down, relax, sleep, stop the mind chatter, know that this is temporary, and maybe think about a small increase if things don’t pass.
Remember blips are just blips - they do pass.
Hope that helps.

Feel better this morning. Not where I was, but 1000 times better than last few days. As always, thanks Kate for your kind words. You always make sense and help.

Yes its passing ….. they always do. Something has upset your rhythm, and your body is having a little wobble about whatever it was. When this happens just accept its a blip, it will pass, don’t start rushing about trying to fix it, just let it be and KNOW it will go. Just ‘ignore’ it calmly and carry on without getting into the head chatter. Its not easy, but it works as you’re re-educating your body not to react.
Anxiety sure is a strange condition.
Glad its feeling easier - it'll be a few days before you're to where you were.

Hey Dubry,
Give it time. Stay at the 10 you went through allot in the past. Changing the dose will bring on more side effects again. My allergies have started up the past few days. I'm clogged up allot of phlem in my throat. Try liquid Zyrtek at night before bed. Are you doing anything different? Like cocktails? Less sleep? Change of diet?
keep me posted?

If you have had Sinus concerns , Allergy worries it sounds like it is a problem caused by the dust in the air.
or even if it was a little bit sooner it may be from plants and pollen. I do not feel it will be the medications however if your nose was bl ocked and you are considering talking to your Doctor some medications can effect the sinus.
The dose of Cit is quite low and if you are feeling at peace fantastic. However one plant in the garden at this time that is producing pollen is the Buddliea Bush, excuse spelling, they flower this time of year and the bees and insects, including Butterflies go after the pollen of this large flower heads. We have in the region of nine plants in the front garden and we enjoy watching the insects etc. What you can do is cut the dead flower off, this will regrow another flower, the dead flowers seems to smell quite strong after it goes back

Hi I have been on citalopram 10mg for 1.5 years. i had blips but never increased. I too suffered from chronic really bad sinusitis for 6 months whilst on it. All I can say is that sinusitis made me feel absolutely miserable, increased my anxiety and depression to the max. it is a very annoying, chronic illness. same applies to allergies, it is definitely something that can cause a depression and anxiety in longer run. it is scientifically proven that sinusitis and allergies are linked to chronic inflammation and chronic inflammation increases amount of cytokines, which are causing depression and anxiety.
Whether Citalopram increase will help I do not know. Like I say I never tried thiis route.
Bear in mind as well that one of side effects of citalopram is sinusitis though, and I saw some colleration in the increase of symptoms when I was on citalopram.
