Been taking sertraline for 8 days and anxiety massively ramped up

Is this normal? I was better on nothing, I'm having panic attacks just walking to school which has always been safe for me - not now! The anxiety is there all the time again and it was depression that was the worse thing before.  Not sleeping, eating (constant nausea), living but on a plus note the violent and suicidal thoughts have gone. Should I stop taking them or give it a bit longer? Any suggestions welcome.

    Hey Rachel.

Yeah it's common when you are taking a new SSRI to have increased anxiety for a few days.

When I started my GP gave me Xanax to cope because just like you I couldn't stand it... From the moment I opened my eyes in the morning my anxiety was off the charts.

For me it lasted 5 days , then I never took Xanax again.

Hang in there, better days will come!

Thanks, I've actually just took 1/2 tablet today and I'm a little less anxious, its going outside that it really ramps up, even in the garden. Probably try and hang in there until see psychiatrist next week because I've a name for stopping meds when I fancy and really trying to behave!

hi trust me it gets alot better. every time you increase your dosage you will get increased anxiety. it's tough but stick with it and when your body finds the right dose you will be happy you did. try clonazepam. it lasts alot longer, not very addictive and does not make you groggy. was a lifesaver for me when I started Zoloft. it gets better trust me

It did get better and feel like my brain has been turned off which is a very good thing and thanks for the reassurance because I was tempted to stop in the first few weeks.
