Belching, burping, is different than hiccuping because hiccuping can be caused by a nerve issue. Burping is actually caused by something physical, air buildup in the stomach.  This air can come from a number of sources.  The most common is from bad bacteria buildup in the intestines.  It can be difficult to change the bacteria ratio or cultures in the gut.  Some people have to take probiotics every day.  I have to give our dog an enzyme/ probiotic every day or else she makes these huge load burps all night.  I also found that feeding her too late at night made it worse.

To rule out other causes I would recommend that you take a quality probiotic twice a day and eat 1/2 cup of probiotic yogurt every 4 hours.

Do this for 2 weeks and if you notice a difference then you have located the issue.

There are other causes to air buildup.  One happened to me.  It is called gastritis.  It happens when the lining of the stomach gets damaged and inflamed.  As long as it is injured, the stomach can not make the necessary chemicals to process food properly, so gas comes from the rotting food in the stomach.

Try the probiotics first as that is pretty easy.  Let me know how it goes.  John

Change the doctor. Do research. Start with smaller bites and do not drink water while eating only after meals.

These may also include the following symptoms: gastrointestinal disorders (eg gastroesophageal reflux disease) or the nervous system (eg Parkinson's disease, brain tumor), but also, for example, medications (eg anti-inflammatory steroids, sedatives). In the case when bloating and belching appear frequently and not only after meals - they may be associated with reflux, peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome. If bouncing appears suddenly and is accompanied by burning and severe pain in the chest - attention to the heart (risk of heart attack).
