Belly button hernia - 2 days after - mess

I'm absolutely devistated.  I ask my surgeon before my op whether I would end up with an innie once my surgery was complete.  He said I would.  At present it looks a mess and is still an outie.  I have stitches below my belly button where the messing was inserted.  I can deal with having a scar but just feel this discomfort is a waste of time given I still have an outie.  Does anyone have any experience of this and can offer some words of wisdom? Really appreciate any words.

I suggest giving it some time. The first three days were the most difficult for me, though I didn't have the stitches below my belly button. There is most likely a good deal of swelling that you are still dealing with. Becoming stressed over an innie vs and outie won't do any good right now.

Thank you.  Its crazy, I didn't think I would stress about it this much.... I appreciate your words.  I would just hate getting two weeks down the line and things being exactly the same.  How did things turn out for you - were you please with the results? Again, thank you!

I've had some ups and downs. I'm wearing an abdomen binder, which gives me some added stability and removes some fears of causing additional damage. I've had some pains in different areas and not sure what it is. It would appear to be too far from the area that the mesh was stitched down. So I feel it's just the area healing and adjusting to the new material. I figure as long as there is no redness or heat coming from the area, I'm okay. The challenge is in not lifting something heavier than what I'm allowed to lift.

if you had a innie belly button before the hernia then i guess you will again I have always had a innie but my innie goes a long way in,  I had a open scar and my hernia was repaired with stitches and NOT MESH and my scar was glued and not stitched,, I had a infection from within my stomach and oozed from my belly button for 3 weeks,  you need to give yourself lots of time for things to mend,  I am 5.5 weeks past my op and i am not quite up to strength yet

Hi... thank you for your words! How have you found getting back into exercise/daily activities?  I'm on day five now.  Starting to regain energy levels and becoming a little less sore.  Did you have swelling actually of the belly button given your infection.

I started with an outie, but confirmed with the surgeon that I would have an innie following the operation to which he said I would.  I wish I'd asked more questions.  I thinking that the reason I had an outtie was due to something coming through from within which should no longer be there.  I'm hoping that once the swelling is gone, I'll have some form of innie!

whilst i had my infection my belly itself was swollen but not my belly button..  as for daily activites i could only walk for a short distance without feeling shattered,  but once the infection went 2 weeks ago i started to feel much better,  i returned to work on Monday i can walk lots and drive but excericse as in running  is a no no as is heavey lifting for another 7 weeks or so (drs orders ) i don't run anyway..but i think you need to listen to your body,  i am sure my belly swells a little in the evening and ache when i have over done it
