Benefits anyone?

No, not THOSE benefits.

This may sound really odd but since I have returned to taking Pred. ( as of last April ) I swear that some of my reactions have speeded up. Although my leg muscles are not all that good, my hand/eye coordination seems to be enhanced and not just since having my new specs. Several times I have made timely \"saves\" in the kitchen which have surprised me. Just wish I could have a game of tennis to really test them out.

Perhaps I'll challenge a five year old friend to a game fitting little shapes into holes against the clock. Have to wait until Christmas, though as it's her present.

Pauline - we had a foot of new snow yesterday but nothing stopped. No-one goes out with the car for fun whilst it's actually snowing so the roads remain quite quiet off the main roads which are cleared and gritted regularly. In the village the farmer with the contract to clear the roads waits until the snow has stopped if he can, then just clears the snow and grits - no salt. Every householder is responsible for clearing their frontage - or making sure it is done, even whilst they are at work, though that doesn't always happen while the snow is continuing. But eveyone has winter tyres and we must carry snow chains with us. It's all about personal responsibility - third party insurance in case someone falls and hurts themselves on our patch, clearing the pavements yourself so the council can concentrate on the roads. At the end of a snow period they often collect the grit to reuse it! Here in the village we don't normally get much snow lying for long, at 850m it melts in the sun if there isn't a lot and eventually it will rain down here although there will be more snow higher up. Using salt can be counter-productive - if it is very cold even the snow/salt mix will freeze, especially if there is a lot of snow which dilutes the brine mixture and it freezes at a higher temp. Even the salt mix freezes at about -9C.

Last Monday my son-in-law in Inverkeithing walked across the Forth Road Bridge to get to work in the Scottish ambulance service and is now staying late to pick up other staff in the 4x4 to keep the phones manned. My nurse daughter is planning her trip to work on Friday evening for night shift - complete with pyjamas and toothbrush in case she gets stuck. Coincidentally, she's been on holiday this week so the kids been off hasn't been a problem, just driven her up the wall too! Sunday night they made it to the out of hours as Naomi had a severe asthma attack - almost admittable level - but it did mean they have one car out where it can be used. Their own road is now impassable and they couldn't get back after the hospital visit. My nephew has a mile walk to get to his car to get into Dundee to drive buses - which are still sort of running despite Dundee being built on a hill!

It's all good fun - the sun is shining today but I have to work sad More snow tomorrow and more sun at the weekend but -17C is suggested!

By the way Pauline - I thought you needed just a glass of water to take the tablet. If you drink too much there is the risk of belching it back which is exactly what you don't want. I know it must be plain tap water - and then wait 45mins before a cup of tea because of the milk!

Thank you very much for that kind action.

Pass Christmas Wishes and Healthy 2010 to all of you, who really do a good job of keeping this site free of spam, bogus people trying to sell us 'cures'.

You are all to be commended.
