Benepali injections

Hi everyone,

Having failed to get any relief from the usual DMARDS...and experiencing some pretty nasty 'Side effects' from them I have now been offered...and just accepted a 'Trial' of Benepali.. I've read the 'Literature' which 'sells it' as a cheaper form of Enbrel / Etanercept....but has no 'History in use' as it has only just been approved for use in our NHS.

Is anyone else on this medication with a 'tale to tell'?? I understand that we are all different in our experiences...but I could draw comfort from the thought that I am not alone...and a little advice on what to expect after taking this med..... All input will be gratefully received.

Thankyou in advance for taking the time to reply,

Hi Catherine, I have been on the Benepali injections for about 6 months now. I didn't have any relief from the previous Dmards only really bad side effects. Glad to say the Benepali has helped and I can walk a lot better than I did. I would say, don't expect miracles, but a lot of improvement. The side effects are a lot less than the others and I was advised, the effects I mentioned to the Nurse, she advised that some of them may be caused by the Arthritis anyway. Good luck with trying it and everyone reacts differently, it is the best one I have tried, plus a steroid injection twice a year to help also.

Good luck, and I hope you get some relief.

    Hi Catherine,

I was diagnosed in May last year. I was so bad I had to use a wheelchair to get to the consultant. Steroids worked but methotrexate and hydroxychloriquine had no effect. Then in September they gave me Benepali. I inject weekly. It has been life changing. I can walk around now unaided. I the consultant said that I am in remission.

I am a police officer so this disease has had a big impact on work. He is hopeful I can get back to full duties following physio.

I do get aches in my knees and ankles still, but it's nothing in comparison to the agony I was in.

I have not noticed any side effects from this drug. It does sting for a while after the injection, but it's a small price to pay.

Best of luck to you! I hope you get good results!

    S smile
