BENZO WITHDRAWALS - looking for natural remedies

I'm so glad I found this site. I am currently at the end stages of coming off of Lorazepam. I was prescribed this for sleep and anxiety 3 years ago. I literally had to bring my psychiatrist a copy of the Ashton Method (he had never heard of it -- He prescribed diazepam for me to use the way that it is listed. I have (fast tracked) it a bit, due to the diazepam making me so tired and unable to work. I've been off of the Lorazepam now about 3 weeks and I am down to just 1 ml of liquid diazepam 3 x a day. I want to just stop everything, but I've been having lots of tightness in my chest and those good old feelings of all over anxiety. I"m NOT going back on anything. I just wanted some advice from individuals that may have used the Ashton Method or are using natural remedies for their anxiety. I'm sure I've done this too fast, but am so tired of these drugs in my system. I'm looking for all and anything that can help with these wicked withdrawal symptoms that is natural. Thanks for all and any help. I'm hanging in there, but this is so hard. Thanks, sue

i too will never take medication for my anxiety as i dont think its helpful to have loads of drugs in your system
have you try st johns wort capsules?
you can also buy st johns wort oil which you can use externally. its a calming herb that is also good for PMS.
i also have felt alot better since i stopped drinking coffee or tea ( idont know if you have caffeine)
but i also avoid sugar and processed food and eat every few hours, it wil keep your blood sugars stable and you are less likely to get mood changes, sorry that i couldn be of more help but i believe a lot in nutrition, and it helps me alot.
theres a documentry on netflix called food matters, and they have a website and are dedicated to treating all sort of disease from cancer to depression with nutrition and natural remedies, you should check them out, it has really turned my life around
also a handful of cashews nuts can abe equivalent to taking an anti depressant because they contain serotonin, the happy hormone maybe try snacking on nuts through out the day!! it works for me
hope you start to feel better xx

All of your comments are so helpful. Yes, I have been gluten and sugar free for years. That has helped. I"ve cut caffeine completely out of my life about 2 months ago (I sure miss it though. I need to eat every few hours, I've heard that unstable blood sugar can heighten the anxiety. I have recently found out that is why we wake up with it in the morning so bad. I"m trying to have a banana on my night stand and eat it as soon as I wake up before getting out of bed. I wake with racing thoughts. I do alot of green juices too. It's definitely harder to eat solid food when the anxiety is at a high level. I force myself to have a green drink or smoothie. I will watch that movie, thank you. I didn't know that about cashews! Ok, since I love them, I'll need to get some raw cashews to have handy. Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this. I"m determined to beat this without conventional medicine, although I want to state that not all people can and if medicine is something that works for you, then yahoo! It just stopped working for me and I want/need to have a normal life again. I"m a very positive person and those times that the anxiety falls away and I feel peace is something that I seek on a continual basis. I've tried the St. John's Wart, to no avail. Used it for over 6 months. I know from research and trial and error, what works for some, doesn't work for others. Again, thank you so much for more 'nugget's' to utilize. p.s. I can thank God I no longer have PMS, had an emergency hysterectomy 7 years ago, so I use bio-identical lotion for those symptoms

Hi Karen,
I am on the homestretch of my klonopin wean. I was on 2mg for 2 years. I started weaning it this year in February. I am now only on 0.125mg! Sleeping pretty good at night. There have been many things that have helped me on my journey. I took a hair mineral test on doctors data and started replacing different things that have helped immensely with my taper. Iodine, B12, lithium orotate(over the counter) magnesium(a lot of mag) magnesium chloride baths, and potassium. A brisk walk. I have had really bad burning in my feet with taper. It is slowly starting to get better. All those things I’m taking help heal my nerves and CNS system which is partly why I had to go on the medication on the first place. I did a lot of research on the nervous system and how to heal nerves. All of those things have helped over a period of time. My next wean will be my Doxepin 10 mg at night and Celexa 40mg. Just slow and steady. Let me know if you need anything. I just happened upon this website and saw you were one of the newest posts so I wanted to respond. It’s very hard getting off these but easier by building your body back up. Hang in there and keep trying and see what works for your body. We are all so different with a different genetic makeup! Hi, thanks for responding to me. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the diazepam crossover . I'm very tired but still anxious. I also just found a deer tick embedded in me so I am waiting for the results of the tick testing. One of my friends has been weaning from klonopin for. A Few years . Her doctor had her on 8mgs! She is pretty sick. Good luck with the rest of your tapers😊

Just wanted to know how you are doing with your weaning. Have you finished it now?
I have gone through weaning of trazodone and klonopin. Many many months... It has been a nightmare

I would certainly prioritize getting off the benzo before worrying about the Traz.
Trazodone mainly helps U sleep if U dont take too much;
Plus, you're a lot less likely to get in trouble driving with leftover Traz than Benzos.
U are on a tiny amount now-great job!
I bet if U even took 1/2 the traz u used to take at night would enable U to stop your nite dose

Try to stick w/your program if U can. :-)

You are not alone.
