Best anti depressants with high blood pressure

Posted , 6 users are following.

I have controlled high blood pressure. I have read some anti depressants can raise your blood pressure. Is this the case. I have had panic attacks and anxiety for years and have been on sertraline in the past. I’m looking for a suitable anti depressant that doesn’t effect my blood pressure. Has anybody ever taken lexapro. Can this be taken with high blood pressure and what people’s experiances with this tablet.

My wife has high blood pressure and she was prescribed Zoloft, which is another SSRI medication. FYI.

Lexapro is  escitalopram. I take celexa which is citalopram. I believe the difference between the two is Lexapro is a cleaner drug. I've never investigated it since it took me a couple of months to finally adjust to the med? I'm on blood pressure meds. Actually being on the celexa has brought my pressure down. It does come with side effects. There is a forum just for citalopram.

The main ones are I’m anxious. No motivation. Panicky. Feeling low.

      Constantly worrying

I’m at that age where he menapause could have something to do with this maybe.

I have suffered anxieties for years and was on sertraline for 2 years. It did help a bit.

I was having horrific panic attacks. I also have head pressure especially if I cough or sneeze or bend down. I’ve learned that I’d from anxiety.  It’s gotten much better with the celexa. I’m glad my Dr suggested it. I’m at a low dosage 10mg. I even had to go to 5mg for a while. I’m a light weight when it comes to meds. I’m on my 21st week. Will😎

      Hi Pamela.

its horrible isn’t it. No I’m not on any meds for it at the moment. I came off the setrakine just over two years ago. They did help a little. But I did have some strange like brain zaps when I came off them which brought my panic back

how are you doing. Are you on any meds

i don’t know what to do

I am going through menopause too and I believe you can get some of theses symptoms with this too.

      Im at the docs today

lit is so helpful to speak with people on here. Just to know you’re not alone and people are going through the same

      take care xx

Hi Wendy.  I’ve had high blood pressure for years and it’s now well controlled using Lisiniprol. I’ve never taken Lexaprol but am on Fluoxetine (Prozac) another SSRI to ease my anxiety and have never had any issues. I hope you find the right meds to help you.

Hi Pickman. Yes I’ve had high BP for some timevtoo I’m on lisiniprol too plus a beta blocker and a water tablet

I’m so worried as to what to take. I’ve tried to manage with the anxeity but of course it’s effecring my BP a bit now too because I’m shallow breathing and really anxious.

Spoke to a few friends and of course you get loads of different views. Just really want my life back. Glad you’re doing ok

I can totally empathise Wendy. When I’m anxious my BP increases so the meds help me maintain both physical and mental balance. I was concerned when I started taking Fluoxetine - my anxiety pushed the worry out of proportion, but I’m glad I made the decision I did. It’s so personal and everyone will have different opinions as well as different stories about how certain drugs affected them. Of course there is always the option of seeing a therapist if you haven’t already done so to help alleviate your anxiety. As you say, you want to get your life back, I know that feeling and in the end opted to seek help from the doctor rather than battle alone. It’s a big decision , I wish you all the best with whatever route you take.

Hi Pickman. Thank you so much. It helps when somebody totally understands

Been to docs today and he says it’s health anxeity and prescribed sertraline. Which I have been on before. I have been anxious for a big part of my life and have OCD. I’m a bit scared of taking the first one. But I need to do something

He has also referred me to a counsellor and I go next Wednesday.

Thank you so much for listening and wish you well too 😀

Hi Wendy. It’s  great that you’re taking control. To be honest I reduced my Fluoxetine with the docs knowledge 8 months back and it all went wrong for me a few weeks back, so I’m building the fluoxetine dose back up again and have finally ended up in Therapy. For the first time someone had said they think my anxiety is generated by the Pure O element of OCD. It’s so tough sometimes but being proactive and trying to understand and deal with the problem makes me feel better. I hope all goes well for you Wendy and that in a few weeks you are feeling much better.

Hi Pickman.  Thank you. It took a lot for me to go. But I’m glad I did. The doctor I saw was so good. That helps so much doesn’t it. Somebody that just understands and listens

I did the same as you. I was on sertraline just over a year ago and came off it as advised by my doctor at the time and the anxeity and everything else crept back in.

Thank you again. Chatting to you had helps loads. Take Care
