Best medicine for flying

I have extreme fear of not being in control. I don't fly and haven't in 18 years. I don't take elevators, I don't take medicines other than Tylenol, I won't drink, try to avoid bridges, etc.. I don't want my control taken from me even my body. When I was a child I was tortured by being dragged to a small closet with no lights and complete dark for hours and locked in. After the trauma stopped I stopped being able to fly and the other avoidance began year after year. I have had panic attacks so great that I have been taken by ambulance and given a shots of sedation. After therapy I do not have panic attacks any longer unless for example I am forced to take an elevator since there is no other option (then a terrible panic attack will occur). My question is this. I have a free trip to Mexico and so scared to fly that I cry over it. I want to go so badly, but can barley breath when I think of the flight. I was thinking that maybe I can be strong enough to take a medication for the flight even though I am terrified of losing control of my body or mind in any way to medicine. I have refused medication the entire time through therapy because I was so scared of taking medication. But maybe now I can try. Is there a medicine that I can take before the flight that will take my anxiety and panic attacks and feelings of dying away from me? Or if that medicine fails a type that will knock me out if the first medicine fails? I

I am sad of missing trips. A couple years ago I missed out on a free trip to Thailand. I want to travel, but the fear is eating me alive.

are you going with anyone on the trip? If you were going alone, I would recommend that you don’t take anything that would knock you out. It would be a good idea to talk to your doctor about this to see what he or she would recommend. medication affects everybody a little differently. i’m sorry this is so scary for you. Try to think of how great it will be once you arrive. Focus on that. Do you have any support such as family or friends you could talk to about this? Hope everything works out for you. And have a great trip!

I didn't fly for about 6-7 years and now I fly again. I tried drinking, taking tranquilizers, I did a Fear of Flying course that cost me a fortune, therapy....you get it.

And yet for me, strangely, the most effective thing was reading a book about fear of flying by A llen C arr I think he's called.

My fear, like yours, is of being out of control, but also of having panic attacks, of being closed in, of heights, of dying, of making a show...after I read that book I got on a plane, as the door closed, I closed my eyes and thought to myself: from this very second I surrender and put my life in the hands of the pilot and of God (I'm not even really a believer), from now on there is nothing I can do to alter the outcome of this flight. After that I surrendered and I was ok. I don't love it but I can do it.

P.S. Please let me know how to get all these free flights lol
