There is no book as far as I know, the best thing is to read as much as you can on this website and also on colitis and Crohn's uk. I joined as a member and received a pack which had loads of interesting and informative stuff in it and it wasn't expensive either. There are also clinical trial results to read and forums are good to find out how other people cope.

Your main person will be your consultant as he is dealing with YOU and your problems and get in touch with your IBD specialist nurse(s) as they are invaluable and can be contacted at most times for a chat.

This condition is for life so managing it is the key. Good luck. X

I've got UC and wanted more info on the disease, I've nearly finished reading "Inflammatory Bowel Disease: The essential guide to controlling Chron's Disease, Colitis and other IBDs" by Dr John Hunter. I got it for about £5 on Amazon straight to my kindle - I'm finding it really helpful in understanding the disease, lots on what to expect from different treatments, and what they might do in the future - found lots of info on bacteria etc that I had no idea about. Hope that helps. x

My husband has ulcerative colitas ,he has been on asacol , azathioprine , microphenolate , tried them all they made him ill , he spent 11 days in hospital on intravenous steriods which helped , but he still had chronic diarrhoea , he was house bound and very depressed , i got some arrowroot and made up the glaze receipe which he took and he has not looked back he gets hours now without going to the loo, and he has not had any other medication for 3 weeks now , its an old remedy but has none of the side affects that the stuff they give you now days ,it works for him any way

I've never heard of the glaze recipe - what is it and how did you find out about it?

its just 1 tablespoon arrowroot, 125 ml water ,mix arrowroot with a little of the water to a paste , put the rest of water on to heat add the paste stir until a thick consistancy, add flavouring if you like eg: lime juice , vanilla , lemon . allow to cool , and try it at night , if diarrhoea really bad have some in the day , i just got the idea from my childhood when i had diarrhoea mum used to make it up and it has worked wonders on my husband , it cant hurt as its only a natural thing , i read in america they are having trials using it .
