Beta bockers

Hi. I have been on 150mg of sertraline and after being off work for nearly 8 months i went back in June.

I can quite honestly say that I was 99% my old self and even went to a music festival and on 2 camping trips.

However I have now been off work again for the last week as my anxiety has returned.

I am so peed off cos I was doing so well.

I managed somehow to get to the doctors this morning and he has prescribed me 80mg slow release propropanol.

Does anyone else have experience of taking this with sertraline.

    Hi Hoopz

I am on exactly the same as you:  150mg sertraline plus 80mg propranolol, and have been since March.  I've found the combination really helpful, just takes the edge off any panic attacks building up.

Take the beta blockers in the morning.  I think you'll find they really help.

Thank you so much for your rapid response ..I hope you are well. I will keep posting

Hoping this beta blocker works quickly. I took one about an hour ago and my palpitations are still driving me crazy!

Time release will obviously prevent rapid release of the medicine. But once the optimum concentration level in the blood has been reached it should work. might take a few hours but shouldn't take more than 8h .You would need to take it regularly. If it doesn't work you could try asking your doctor for a different non time release version. Normally a non time release type starts to act in 1 hour

Hi hoopz. Do you know what triggered the return of your anxiety ?

I have a lot of family problems which are mainly impossible to resolve. Things seem to get worse rather than better. I also work nights so sleep is an issue. I think it's a combination of things.

I feel like a piggy in the middle with family issues...I used to be able to sort stuff out but I'm out of my depth.

      Grim!!

    Hi Hoopz,

I am sorry you are struggeling. I too take Sertraline and a beta blocker, I struggle with anxiety and heart palps. It took a week or so for the beta blockers to really kick in, but once they did my heart slowed and my palps about complete went away. It’s amazing because frequently the palps set off or made my anxiety worse. Wishing you calm happy days. - x kat

Thanks for your post. The beta blocker is definitely working. I just hope it continues. My worst lingering side effect from the sertraline is my bad bum. It's horrid. I have now been prescribed Imodium equivalent to take at night but it doesn't really help. I've even been for a colonoscopy which was clear. I'm going to try to eat better as my diet is awful.

      I hope you are well

      Hello!

I’m just wondering how the Bets Blocker has been working for you and if your anxiety has calmed down a bit since taking it? I have followed your journey for a while now but have never commented. I’ve felt so similar in my journey even having a set back the last month or so. I’m telling you, I would t wish an anxiety disorder on my worst enemy!

I do hope things are improving for you
