    Hi Skella

i am on 24mg twice a day.that means 48mg daily for past three years.even then there are acute episodes of vertigo and vomiting on and off.so what i mean to say is that 16mg is still a low dose.

      Hi Vinay

Silly me im on 16mg 3 times a day which does equal 48 mg but it just seems to low for me.

i have been on 96mg a day for over 2 years and find it effective. if i reduce the dose the menieres attacks return.

Hi Paul...How did you mange to get on to that dosage a day as i know i need a higher dose which is actually 48mg a day as i take 16mg 3 times day

Hi Skella, my consultant placed me on that dose as my menieres attacks were becoming so frequent and violent.

HI paul my attacks are very frequent as in 5 in 7 days and very violent as id sleep for hours after...what dosage was it he put you on

hi Skella my dose is 96mg per day and my consultant put me on this when i was getting 3 attacks a day.

Hi Skella. Try increasing your 16mg betahistine from 3 a day to 4 a day. If after a week or so if you still have issues raise the dose to 5 a day. My sweet spot is 16mg 4 times/day. Yours may be the same or higher. Betahistine users usually continue increasing dosage until their individual sweet spot is reached. Once you get there then discuss with your doctor and insist that they prescribe that dosage.

BTW are you seeing an ENT doctor for advice on MD?

hi there yea im under a consultant and he said he has to refer me to a bslsnce clinic...is it ok to increase them off my own bat if it is ill def do it

I'm not clear on your question. If you are asking should you increase dosage on your own....my response is regarding betahistine you can safely increase frequency (GRADUALLY) until you reach the effective dose for you.Give 4 times a day some time to work....at least a week or so before going higher. You should not have any side effects. Now having said that....I'm giving you advice based on my own experience and discussions on this site. I'm not a doctor.

Hi tanney thanks for your advice ill def increase it as 3 a day just isnt doing the job that i take them for

Hi there. I take 96mg per day also. 32mg x 3. I think your general GP is only allowed to prescribe 48mg per day ie 16mg x 3, it was my consultant at the hospital who increased it and wrote to my GP. She had other patients on this dose, and indeed higher, and had seen good results. Plus a diuretic water pill, 1 per day. This combination is working well for me. The GP queries this every year with me, but because it is keeping me well, I'm adamant I do not want to decrease thank you I say, I can stay on this level. It keeps me out of his surgery and the hospital! Ask your doctor again to increase, tell him of other good results, like me you may need the ENT consultant at the hospital to override and increase. Increase on your own, it's your body, but you'll run out of pills quite quickly that's the only problem. Good luck. As other people have said, its worth it, get that higher dose. It gave me my confidence back.

    Hi Angela

Thankyou for your response...It was the consultant that put me on the medication as it was him that diagnosed me and also him that said he cant give me anything stronger why i just dont know so he has refferred me to a balance clinic which no doubt ill be waiting forever and a day for so im just going to increase it myself... The only thing that confuses me is that i dot have the tinnitus or eye problem so im actually wondering is it memiers at all although i do have the sickness and vertigo..When i have an attack i can be asleep for hours after it...Do you do the same

Hi. actually no re the sleep afterwards. and my tinnitus increased before attacks with fullness in ear. Keep a diary so you can tell them exactly what the frequency is and how bad it is. When you get vertigo, if it's the full blown room spinning round you at 100 miles an hour and you're holding on for dear life that's menieres. Your eyes flicker to keep up, I shut mine during! There's also slower vertigo, but an attack will be the fast rollercoaster, in my experience. And the tinnitus goes a lot quieter after, like the storm has cleared the air. Do the diary so you can hit them with the facts, it helped me. Good luck. x
